Job Description / Essential Elements: Print   

CLASS TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT

DEFINITION: Under immediate supervision, perform work of routine difficulty in providing general instructional support services in various educational programs; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• As directed, assists teachers in general supervision of students
• Records attendance
• Administers, scores and records the results of routine tests
• Assembles, distributes, collects and maintains instructional materials
• Assists students in interpreting assignments and following directions
• Assists students in attending to personal needs
• Performs related duties as assigned

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school.

Knowledge of:

• Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and basic arithmetic
• General classroom procedures, practices and equipment
*Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultrual and ethnic backgrounds of students

Skill in:

• Following oral and written directions
• Communicating clearly, both orally and in writing
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others
Demonstrating patience and compassion

  • Maintaining positive and encouraging demeanor
  • Supporting the teacher’s classroom organizational system
  • Demonstrating knowledge of school standards and code of conduct

  • Ability to:

    • Perform the duties of the position with or without accommodation

Performs related work as required. EXAMINATION INFORMATION: Location: Computer Lab, Willow Creek Center, 1026, Mohr Lane, Concord, CA. Date: Tuesday, March 19, 2013 Time : 9 AM (Approximate test time - 3 hours) PLEASE ATTEND TESTING AT ABOVE STATED DATE AND TIME (unless you have proof of CBEST). YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE WRITTEN NOTIFICATION. SELECTION PROCEDURE: 1. Candidates must pass each part of an examination, which consists of the following: Mathematics, Algebra, English, ability to assist and writing. 2. A review and evaluation of candidate's application material (qualifying). 3. Those candidates successful in the above areas will be invited to the interview. NOTICE: The following will be taken into consideration as part of the selection process: application, resume, test, interview, and letters of recommendation/reference. Any material to be reviewed by the screening committee must be submitted by the final filing date. IMPORTANT: Prior to employment, candidate will be fingerprinted by Mt. Diablo Unified School District. Costs incurred are the responsibility of the prospective employee.
