ALTA LOMA SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL CLERK DEFINITION Under general supervision, to perform a wide variety of school related clerical functions of average to above average difficulty, including typing, data entry and other general office duties; to perform attendance clerical functions, including the maintenance of attendance records, and the preparation of attendance reports; and to do other related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Perform a variety of clerical tasks, including typing, data entry, proofreading, filing, and the recording of information. • Compile information and prepare attendance and other reports and summaries. • Answer the telephone and provide caller with routine information and data. • Assist the public and office visitors by answering routine inquiries, providing them with information and data, and by directing them to appropriate personnel. • Maintain a variety of alphabetical, numerical, and subject matter files and records. • Type and enter data from rough drafts and notes, and prepare final copy of material that may involve the utilization of transcription equipment. • Perform a variety of data entry functions using a computer. • May compose routine letters and memoranda independently. • Receive, sort, and distribute mail. • Make appointments and receive visitors. • Receive and distribute books and other instructional materials or equipment. • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of student permanent records, including the recording of grades, test scores, attendance information, and a variety of confidential information. • Process student transcripts and records for distribution. • May maintain simple financial or statistical records. • Assist as necessary with the functions of the student health center, including the care of ill and injured students, and accommodating students’ health and hygiene needs (toileting, feeding, lifting, and positioning). • Contact parents regarding pupil absences. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Modern office methods, procedures, and techniques; English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic concepts; Standard office machines and equipment, including computers; Automated record storage, retrieval, and management systems. Ability to: Perform general clerical work of average difficulty with speed and accuracy; Make simple arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy; Perform routine first aid and health activities pertaining to students with special needs; Communicate effectively in oral and written form; Type or keyboard at a net corrected speed of 45 words per minute; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be: Experience: One year of experience performing varied general office or clerical functions. Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by course work in typing, data entry, record management, and general office practices. Certificate Requirement Must obtain within six (6) months of employment CPR and First Aid certification.
