The Special Education Consultant Teacher (Mild/Moderate) works under the direction of the Director & Principal of Alternative Education and serves as a resource to students and teachers in Independent Study and the Home Charter School.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Acts as a liaison between the Districts and Independent Study/Monterey County Home Charter School; coordinates special education services with the regular school program for each individual with exceptional needs; participates in the review, revision, and writing of individualized education plans (IEPs), as appropriate; uses strategies to modify the core curriculum to enable special education students to learn the same information as all other students; upon the request of the independent study/ home school teacher, assists in diagnosing and prescribing for the special education student’s needs.
Performs other job-related tasks as required.

• California Mild-Moderate Special Education Credential
• Possess an appropriate California operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles with State minimum insurance coverage
• Knowledge of diagnostic procedures to identify specific learning disabilities
• Knowledge of core curriculum
• Knowledge, skills and abilities of pertinent laws and regulations
• Ability to interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both orally and in writing
• Ability to speak Spanish
