Under direction of an assigned supervisor, provide information and expertise independently to an assigned student or group of students regarding the Peaceful Playground Program
Essential Job Functions/Required Knowledge and Abilities
Provide ongoing training to all staff (teachers and instructional assistants) regarding the Peaceful Playground Program; Oversee and supervise students during Peaceful Playground activities; Set up the necessary equipment necessary for Peaceful Playground activities; Recruit, train and coordinate parent volunteers to support Peaceful Playground activities; Create and monitor Peaceful Playground schedules for parent volunteers; Provide instructional support by explaining and reinforcing Peaceful Playground game rules to ensure a consistent and smooth implementation of the program; Inventory, organize and monitor Peaceful Playground materials; Motivate and engage children in Peaceful Playground activities and games.
Knowledge of: General concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics; Techniques used in controlling and motivating students
Ability to: Assume responsibility for student supervision; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the community
• Coursework/experience in Physical Education
• Experience teaching fitness
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be completion of relevant college coursework in the area of specialty and/or at least one year of work experience directly related to the field of specialty.
Terms of Employment
Ten month work year, part time; valid California Driver’s License; valid First Aid and CPR certificate; current DMV Clean Driving Record Report , Criminal Justice Department Fingerprint Clearance, current TB
Indoor and outdoor instructional environments
Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print; Require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend; Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; Require the ability to stand for long periods; Require the ability to walk long distances; Perform lifting, pushing and/or pulling which does not exceed 50 pounds and is infrequent aspect of the job; Is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
