THE VACANCY:
This position is Dual Certification - This employment opportunity is available to anyone who qualifies.  A single eligibility list based on rank order will be generated from this recruitment.  Current classified employees who qualify will be given seniority credit.  This position is a full time, salaried position.

Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition Services, coordinate, organize, control and direct child nutrition operations and activities in compliance with local, state and federal regulations at assigned schools and related operations as assigned; assist the Director in the overall management of hardware and software systems related to Nutrition Services; assure compliance with quality control in serving meals; prepare annual budgets and supervise and control the financial and statistical record-keeping activities of staff assigned to Nutrition Services; coordinate and organize a variety of purchasing functions related to the procurement of Nutrition Services supplies, equipment and services; train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in institutional food management, or accounting, business, economics or related field and three years supervisory experience in child nutrition operations including accounting, budget management or related field. Graduate level studies in Business Management is preferred.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver’s license.
Valid Orange County Food Safety Certificate. (Serv-Safe)

Eligibility list will be certified and established for six (6) months.
 
The supplemental to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.

However, Newport-Mesa Unified School District reserves the right to hold a competitive screening based on the number of applications and the needs of the District.
 
All who are successful with the competitive screening will be invited to the interview which has been tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2013. You will be notified via email, or US mail, as indicated on your application, regarding the testing and interviewing dates, times, and locations.
 
 
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plan, coordinate, control and assist the Director in the operation of District’s Nutrition Services Program. E
Supervise, train, direct, and evaluate the performance of Nutrition Services Operations Managers, Supervisors, and other assigned staff. E
Interview and select employees; and recommend transfers, reassignments, terminations and disciplinary actions. E
Conduct surveys and compile data to assist in developing, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of ongoing marketing efforts designed to educate students, improve participation in the child nutrition program, and increase sales. E
Plan and conduct regularly scheduled meetings with school site and department staff to ensure customer satisfaction and operational efficiency; communicate with District personnel and outside agencies to coordinate activities, exchange information and resolve issues or concerns. E
Participate in the development and implementation of District policies related to child nutrition and physical activity, evaluate and provide recommendations related to improving customer service to students, parents and staff; assist in the development of Department goals and objectives. E
Drive a vehicle to various District sites to observe operations, inspect facilities, and evaluate effectiveness of various Nutrition Services programs. E
Coordinate Nutrition Services point of sale (POS) systems, on-line parent pre-payment software interfaces and back office software systems, and provide training and technical support for users. E
Coordinate with Orange County Department of Education and California Department of Education to maintain updated Categorical Eligibility for Free Meals based on Direct Certification. E
Coordinate and provide technical support to the Director of Nutrition Services in developing annual budgets, preparing reports to evaluate financial performance and recommending operational changes designed to maximize financial performance of the enterprise. E
Assure compliance of financial income and expenditure transactions and records with federal, state and county rules, regulations and requirements’ assure compliance with audit requirements. E
Review contract specifications, prepares bid documentation, public announcements and legal advertisements, and bid openings. E
Review bids from agencies/vendors for conformity to contract requirements and determine acceptable bids. E
Prepare award of contract and recommendations for contract award for approval by the Board of Education. E
Establish and maintain contact with agencies/vendors to ensure the smooth working of the contract process. E
Administer contracts and assists in reviews to determine necessity for amendments or extensions of contracts, and compliance to contractual obligations. E
Analyze statistical data, program requirements and contractual requirements. E
Assist the Director of Nutrition Services in effective financial management to ensure fiscal accountability of program. E
Compile basic data, prepares tables and charts, drafts reports for use in fiscal planning for Nutrition Services. E
Participate in the research and evaluation of menu items, supplies and equipment, and recommend products for purchase. E
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and financial reports related to assigned activities. E
Communicate with other administrators, personnel, and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information. E
Represent the Nutrition Services Department at meetings as required. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

In addition to the salary range listed: 
  • 1-2% Professional Growth Stipend
