Position Title Plumber II II. Position Description Under general supervision, to perform skilled plumbing work in the repair, installation and maintenance of plumbing fixtures and plumbing-related appliances and equipment; and do related work as may be required. A major portion of the time of positions in this class is spent in performing skilled plumbing work. Incumbents regularly carry out a wide range of general maintenance work outside the plumbing trade. As assigned, positions are expected to perform tasks in other maintenance trades at a skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled level as a helper or independently. III. Example of Duties/Responsibilities A. Makes installations of general plumbing systems and repairs existing systems-E B. Installs, maintains and repair various types of heating units and systems C. Repairs or replaces valves, gaskets, tubing and pipes; cuts, binds, fuses and joins tubing and pipes-E D. Tests systems by pressure tests-E E. Tests joints and installs pipe of refrigeration or air conditioning systems F. Installs water piping, sewer mains and laterals-E G. Repairs and replaces pipes, valves, fittings, ball-cocks and other fixtures-E H. Cuts and threads pipe; packs faucets-E I. Repairs water supply, waste, sewage and drainage pipes-E J. Wipes and flushes joints-E K. Cleans out drains and removes obstructions from water and sewer systems-E L. Installs, maintains and repairs washers, dryers, water heaters and garbage disposals-E M. Cleans and adjusts burners on stoves-E N. Works from verbal instructions, blueprints, sketches and work orders-E O. Cares for plumbing tools and equipment-E P. Requisitions needed supplies Q. Digs ditches and trenches, sharing as necessary, assists in other maintenance areas by performing skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled duties-E R. Plans and lays out assigned tasks; keeps time, labor and materials records-E S. Prepares cost estimates T. May direct the work of helpers U. Maintains gas, oil and water in assigned vehicles-E (E) - Essential IV. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: •Tools, materials and standard practices of the plumbing trade •Applicable plumbing codes and regulations •Appropriate safety precautions and procedures Ability to: •Perform skilled plumbing installation, repair and maintenance work •Perform and learn to perform a wide range of general maintenance and repair outside of the plumbing trade •Use plumbing tools and equipment skillfully •Plan and layout plumbing work including estimating labor and material cost •Work from sketches, diagrams, blueprints, plans and specifications •Maintain simple records •Perform shop math •Operate a truck, observing legal and defensive driving practices •Understand and carry out oral and written directions •Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work Education and Experience •Education: Graduation from High School or equivalent •Experience: One (1) year of experience performing skilled plumbing work or two (2) years of experience as a maintenance worker in the Moreno Valley Unified School District in an area in which the incumbent has acquired competence at a skilled level in this trade. License •Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License •May be necessary to hold Certificate of Competency to test back flow prevention devices, if required by Riverside County Health Officer. Working Conditions Environment •Work involves indoor and outdoor environment •Subject to traveling to various District sites Physical Abilities •Strength: Heavy work - lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing up to approximately 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. •Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized tools and equipment •Gripping/grasping tools, supplies and equipment •Bending, twisting at the waist •Kneeling or crouching •Standing for extended periods of time Hazards •Working in a cramped or restrictive work chamber •Exposure to offensive or unhealthy vapors and fumes
