CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICER
DEFINITION
Under supervision of a school administrator, Police Officer or Senior Campus Security Officer supervises the school campus and parking lot areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assists in the protection of students, school personnel and property; monitors student activities on the campus; monitors and instructs students, visitors and District personnel on proper and lawful campus or facility behavior; guards, checks and secures doors, rooms, buildings and equipment; reports hazardous or unusual conditions or malfunctions observed; provides security and crowd control for extra-curricular school activities; directs and controls traffic on and around school campus as required; inspects for and prevents vandalism; contacts police officers to make arrests; contacts District Police Officers in emergency situations; identifies, observes and questions persons on or near school premises when the reason for their presence or intentions are questionable; provides day and/or night patrol coverage of school parking lots to prevent loitering or tampering; administers emergency first aid; may patrol school campus and restroom areas to enforce regulations on smoking, truancy, tardiness and other violations; may appear in court as a witness; performs related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Training and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed herein:

One year of full time paid security experience is desirable.

Knowledge of:

Behavior modification strategies and techniques;
Appropriate student behavior;
Safe monitoring methods and procedures;
Crowd control techniques;
Radio procedures and equipment;
Basic patrol and property protection procedures;
Laws and ordinances concerning theft, burglary, malicious mischief and trespassing;
Safety hazards.

Ability to:

Perform effectively and assertively in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, and good judgment;
Enforce campus rules and regulations;
Communicate effectively in oral and written form;
Learn and apply applicable provisions of state and federal laws;
Control groups;
Exercise sound judgment;
Recognize illegal, unsafe and contraband substances or weapons;
Write clear and concise reports;
Remember details such as faces, license plate numbers, names and incidents;
Administer emergency first aid and/or CPR;
Operate a two-way radio;
Operate a vehicle, observing legal driving practices;
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work;
Perform duties involving running and climbing;
Perform duties involving prolonged exposure to weather conditions and walking and riding in an automobile;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Special Requirement: Certification of completion of 832.2 of California Penal Code, in compliance with California Education Code Section 38001.5. First aid and CPR certificates are required within the first three months of employment. May be required to work adjustable work schedules including evenings, weekend and holiday assignments.

Physical Requirement: Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.

License and Automobile Requirement: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License.

Insurance Requirement: Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle that meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and continues to maintain insurability.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employees in this classification stand, walk, may occasionally lift over 100 lbs. with assistance, speak clearly, hear normal voice conversation, have depth perception, color vision and can distinguish shades, see small details, and have vision correctable to 20/20.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification work inside and outside, exposed to minor contagious illnesses (colds, flu, etc.), in direct contact with the public, students, District personnel, and without direct supervision, potential physical hazards involved when intervening in anti-social, illegal, and violent behavior, possible fights, verbal and/or physical confrontations.
