ALUM ROCK UNION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION TITLE: TECH SUPPORT SPECIALIST REPORTS TO: Assigned Supervisor FUNCTIONS: Under general direction, install and maintain hardware and software application used to support all school sites. Provide technical support to users and maintenance to various District systems hardware and software applications; provide consultation and direction regarding instructional or business system applications; test and evaluate software for District-wide use. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Provide technical support to users and maintenance to various District systems hardware and software application. Install and maintain computer equipment throughout the District; test and evaluate software for District-wide use. Conduct training in basic, intermediate and advanced use of computer hardware, mainframe or District standard personal computer software. Implement and maintain manufacturer developed packages to fit specific requirements of District users of computer equipment; inventory equipment. Diagnose and solve user computer hardware and software problems. Prepare written technical documentation, training material, standards, reports and other documents as assigned. Travel to various District sites to assist others. Operate software and hardware diagnostic tools and related equipment. Work cooperatively with various areas of Information Technology Support Services such as application configuration, system, operations, training, help desk and other areas as required. Attend seminars and demonstrations. Assist in recommending, defining and establishing District standards. Provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel. Remain current with computer technology. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Information Technology functions and responsibilities within the District. Capabilities and limitations of personal computer hardware and software. Technical aspects of field specialty. Tech Support Specialist – Continued Commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures. Record-keeping techniques. Diagnostic techniques. Inventory methods and practices. Oral and written communication skills. Basic knowledge of Local Area Networks. ABILITY TO: Prioritize and schedule work. Operate microcomputer and related electronic equipment. Compile statistical data and maintain involved records and files. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Work in a challenging and rapidly changing environment EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: two years of college-level course work in computer science or related field, and two years experience including training, use and installation of personal computer hardware and software. (Meets or exceeds standards of knowledge) LICENSE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard Sitting for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the phone. Moderately heavy lifting — over 4OIbs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: SALARY RANGE: 17 WORK YEAR: 10, 11, 12 months BARGAINING UNIT: CSEA BOARD APPROVED: 07/14/05
