Position Title: Director of Technology and Information Services Position: Full Time
Site: Montecito Union Elementary School/District Work Year: 12 month – 220 Days
Reports to/Evaluated by: Superintendent
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the superintendent or designee, plan, recommend, organize, and direct, district-wide information and computer operating systems; provide leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of district-wide information technology program as it relates to the 21st Century Classroom and Core Curriculum. Develop and oversee technology department budget; coordinate contract services; and general oversight responsibility for classrooms/school/district technology. Collaborate with school and district staff on technology-related issues; supervise technology department staff.
EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
Provides leadership and direction in district-wide technology planning, computer acquisition, applications development, and computer operations to increase access to information and facilitate productivity.
- Work with superintendent and designated personnel to develop, update and implement the District/school technology plan.
- Identify short and long-term district-wide information and technology needs and develop strategies for systems development and technology acquisition and integration.
- Plan, implement, monitor district-wide e-mail system, on-line registration process, student information system, district website; work with teachers to develop individual websites and other systems.
- Knowledge of technology curriculum for students, user privacy, safety and cyber bullying prevention and awareness.
- Assists in the implementation of educational programs.
- Consults with superintendent or designee to develop network and communication solutions and data services that integrate computer systems for information processing and data sharing.
- Identifies, consolidates and integrates new technologies with legacy systems; oversees research and evaluation of hardware and software compatibility, serviceability, design and performance; and recommends vendor contracts covering acquisitions.
- Systematically plans for the development and implementation of new, efficient and effective operating systems that maximize District resources.
- Possess understanding of the principles, practices, hardware and software related to the establishment and maintenance of LANs and WANs
- Ability to communicate and keep the District compliant with legal and ethical issues associated with the use of technology.
- Ability to explain technical concepts and procedures to non-technical users and its importance to 21st century learning.
- Plans, implements, monitors and maintains district server hardware and software, backups, assessment and documentation.
- Manages and troubleshoots district servers to assure security of data and continuous flow of service to users.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses production problems; provides leadership to correct identified problems.
- Develops and implements information systems including database management, business and financial applications to improve operations and delivery of instruction.
- Develops and implements departmental goals, priorities and procedures.
- Monitors data security, including backups and recoveries to ensure the integrity and reliability of computerized information systems.
- Keep informed on current trends in the area of instructional technology and student achievement.
- Ability to implement State and Federal academic requirements for testing, compliance and reporting and meet deadlines for all reporting including, but not limited to E-RATE, CSIS, CAL PADS.
- Delegates responsibilities and tasks to technology staff as necessary to ensure highest response to user needs.
- Directs the continuous improvement of the information and technical equipment and systems to maintain pace with current technology methods and district needs.
- Researches and understands current world events relating to educational technology.
- Develops and conducts continuous training for technology department staff to keep with current technology and district needs.
- Oversees the annual technology budget and establish controls to stay within the budget.
- Prepares for and follows up on technology-related audits.
- Coordinates student and staff trainings promoting the use of instructional technology.
- Provides technical assistance and staff development to district and school staff to facilitate the implementation of technologically supported instruction.
- Assists in the development of district policies, procedures and guidelines related to technology.
- Collaborates with business office to prepare and oversee bid requests, proposals and vendor contacts related to technology.
- Supervises and evaluates department staff.
- Maintains positive working relationships and communication with students, staff, parents and vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to the function of the school’s technology program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Current K-12 instructional practices; principles and techniques of educational technology; principles and techniques for project planning, scheduling and control; public sector business practices; emerging trends in instructional technology, and management of budget planning and oversight.
Ability to:
Supervise, coordinate, and direct managers teachers, classified staff, advisory groups, and other stakeholders; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; develop sound strategies to accomplish objectives; incorporate new technology into future plans; facilitate and lead change; establish positive and productive relationships with others, comply with District’s customer service standards and Board policies.
Experience
Demonstrated positive management/leadership skills and a minimum of two years experience at site or district level coordinating technology integration into instruction or management of technology/information systems.
Education
Bachelor’s degree (Masters degree preferred)
CTO Certification desired
Extensive coursework in current technology systems and applications
Current California Teaching Credential desired
Licenses and Other Requirements
Valid California Driver’s license
Working Conditions
Subject to classroom and school site setting, including outside environmental conditions.
Physical Abilities
Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
Work at a desk, computer for extended periods of time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers for operating office equipment, carrying, pushing or lifting classroom equipment and supplies.
Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.

Seeing to observe students in classroom activities.
Hearing and speaking to communicate with others.
Moving around a classroom or school site environment freely and independently enough to work with staff members.
Communicate so others will be able to understand at conversational levels and on the telephone.

• The Director works closely with the administrative team and faculty to develop and implement a district-wide information Technology Program as it relates to a 21st Century Classroom and the Common Core Curriculum.
Minimum Starting Salary: $102,000 - commensurate with related experience
Plus $2,500 stipend for advanced degrees
Comprehensive benefit package
Work Year: 12 months - 220 days
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (Masters degree preferred), CTO Certificate desired
Extensive coursework in current technology systems and applications
Current California Teaching Credential desired
