Job Description / Essential Elements: Print   

Job Purpose Statements: The job of Senior Clerk Typist is done for the purpose of providing clerical support to assigned personnel; communicating information to staff, the public, and other districts; and providing information and/or direction as may be requested.

Essential Job Functions

Assists other office and district personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Attends meetings, training classes, seminars, etc. for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information.

Compiles student records (i.e. birth certificates, transfers, immunization, etc.) for the purpose of meeting state, federal and/or district requirements.

Composes documents (e.g. correspondence, agendas, forms, reports, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to school and district personnel, the public, state officials, etc.

Maintains various items (i.e. inventory, lunch applications, purchase orders, student files, testing results, textbook, calendars, etc.) for the purpose of documenting and/or providing reliable information.

Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, faxing, etc. for the purpose of supporting assigned administrator and/or site with necessary materials.

Prepares written materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, budgets, newsletters, purchase orders, requisitions, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information regarding school and/or district activities and procedures.

Processes documents and materials (e.g. bank deposits, textbooks, identification cards, health services, lunch program, bills to students/parents, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.

Responds to inquiries of staff, school police, district office, outside agencies, the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.

Schedules meetings, substitutes, conferences, class visits calendar, media center, health screening, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of resources.

Supports assigned administrator/supervisor for the purpose of assisting them in the completion of their activities and/or function

Other Job Functions

Directs student workers, Job Training Placement Act (JTPA) workers, etc. for the purpose of providing necessary training to accomplish job functions

Job Requirements - Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge to perform basic math including fractions, percents, and ratios; to read technical information, create and/or compose documents and/or participate in panel discussions; and to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Skills to perform multiple basic non-technical tasks.  Specific skills to apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws, communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; operate standard office equipment; perform standard bookkeeping/accounting procedures; perform standard clerical procedures; prepare and maintain accurate records; and utilize pertinent software applications.  Keyboard/computer literate

Abilities to deal with a level of complexity of tasks that require significant flexibility with data and/or people coordinating of other person’s schedules and/or activities; discretion, independent action and/or judgment with regards to working with people; uses and/or sources of data; and interacting with persons and/or agendas that frequently change.  Specific abilities to be attentive to detail; meet deadlines and schedules; and work under time constraints.  Type 45 wpm

Responsibility in relationship to people includes leading, guiding and/or coordinating.  The resources required (people, equipment, facilities, and/or funding) necessary to perform job functions are of a moderate scope.   Work is not normally reviewed in detail.

Wrking Environment: The job functions are generally performed in an indoor environment requiring the following significant physical abilities: reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling; sensory speaking, hearing and visual.

Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience Requirements: Two years related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is a prerequisite.

Licensing, Certification, Testing Requirements: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; Tuberculosis clearance.
