DUTIES: 

The Director, under the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI), the Chief Deputy Superintendent, and the Deputy Superintendent for Instruction, Measurement and Administration Branch is responsible for being the Executive Director of Instructional Quality Commission and leading the implementation of State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s priorities and initiatives in the areas of curriculum and instructional materials. This includes developing and implementing curriculum frameworks, instructional materials reviews, and ensuring accessible state-adopted instructional materials. The Director serves as the Executive Director of the Instructional Quality Commission and facilitates the State Board of Education’s advisory body for curriculum, instructional materials and other related policy areas. The Director oversees activities and relationships with a variety of professional organizations that are pertinent to the subject areas of English language arts, English language development, mathematics, history-social science, science, health, world languages, physical education and visual and performing arts.

The Director provides leadership and supervision to staff in the units and offices that comprise the Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division including the Curriculum Frameworks Unit, Instructional Resources Unit, the Clearinghouse for Specialized Media and Technology (CSMT), Division Support Unit, the CSMT Production, Materials Support, and  CSMT Warehouse Services. In addition the Director is responsible for recommending and establishing program goals and objectives; ensuring that program planning and development efforts are consistent with approved departmental objectives; overseeing budget preparation and expenditures; and providing technical assistance to LEAs. The Director supervises a wide range of employees including administrators, consultants, analysts, support staff, and warehouse employees.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to evaluation each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will be emphsized in competively evaluating each candidate's:

  1. Experience in administering and leading curriculum and instructional materials programs and implementing a broad-range of educational programs including strategic planning, performance measurement, benchmarking, and organizational development in order to add value to the organization and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of its programs.
  2. Experience  in working with advisory bodies, boards and/or commissions, and policymaking groups and collaborating with a variety of internal and/or external groups on educational issues of a high profile and/or politically sensitive nature.
  3. Experience in effectively planning, implementing, and monitoring state and federal funding.

Examination Information

The Statement of Qualifications will be the only basis for your final score and rank on the eligible list.

A minimum rating of 70% must be attained in the Examination to obtain list eligibility for this position. All candidates will receive written notification of their examination results.
