MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
Education:
Completion of twelfth grade or GED equivalent
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible and varied clerical experience
OR
One year of experience at or equivalent to the level of Clerk II in the Whittier Union High School District
Knowledge of:
Modern office methods and procedures
Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
Basic mathematics
Computer experience
Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable
Ability to:
Rapidly learn procedures and routines of the assigned area
Sort and file accurately and locate material in files
Learn to operate various types of office machines
Receive and give information over the telephone, or in public, in a courteous manner
Performs arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
Establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work
Performs variety of responsible clerical work of above average difficulty
Independently compose letters, memoranda, bulletins and reports
Understand and apply with good judgment the policies, laws, rules and regulations which apply to the assigned function
Type accurately at the rate of 50 words per minute from clear, legible copy
POSITION FUNCTION/DUTIES:
Function: Under general supervision, to perform a variety of clerical duties, involving the use of computer, in an administrative office, school, or extension office and to perform related duties as assigned.

Performs a variety of clerical work, such as standard and statistical typing, checking, proofreading, filing, recording information on records and compiling information for reports and summaries
May maintain records for specialized programs
May prepare a variety of reports and summaries requiring independent judgment
Types confidential and technical reports
Answers telephones and waits on public counters
Maintains a variety of files and records personally collecting required information
Types rough and final copy of material from clear copy or written rough drafts
Operates office equipment, such as adding, photocopy, computer, fax, etc.
May compose simple or routine letters independently
Receives, sorts and distributes mail
Makes appointments
Sets up meetings
May be involved in making computations, compiling data, or in maintaining financial records
May type requisitions, receive, shelve and distribute supplies
Regularly assists and works with students, employees and the public
May direct and instruct student assistants in the performance of clerical and office duties
May maintain employee timecards
Posts information to logs, records, charts or cards
May check forms for completeness and accuracy and obtain information as necessary
May modify and/or devise forms for reporting data
May record and keep meeting minutes
May give information to students on a broad range of subjects, such as procedures for enrollment and registration, resident and interdistrict regulations, attendance program changes, withdrawal and related information on procedures and regulations
May assist in the preparation of student enrollment and attendance records
May organize, log, batch and forward materials
May audit, correct and update data processing, student and departmental records
Performs related work as required
