Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Dean, American River College - Natomas Education Center serves as the administrator responsible for the operation and supervision of the Center. The Dean works with the College in establishing the overall direction, development and growth of the Center. Typical duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the development (in collaboration with the on-campus instructional deans) of the programs, courses and curriculum to be offered at the off-campus location; the development of the class schedule for the fall and spring semesters, and summer offerings; the assignment, supervision and evaluation of faculty assigned to the Center; and conducting staff development activities for faculty assigned to the Center. In addition, the Dean, American River College - Natomas Education Center maintains agreements and contracts with host sites, recommends budget allocations, administers the adopted budget and the American River College Natomas Education Center day, evening and summer offerings, works with the district and college staff in areas of responsibility, and performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Areas of responsibility include:
- Develop, facilitate and supervise the American River College - Natomas Education Center to include programs, class schedule, student support services, and community relations.
- Assist faculty and staff with student problems and concerns.
- Develop new initiatives that support student learning and student success.
- Develop strong relationships with Inderkum High School, the Natomas Unified School District, and Sacramento Public Library.
- Coordinate student support services at the Center to include counseling, financial aid, enrollment services, DSPS, CalWORKS, etc.
- Supervise and evaluate support staff assigned to the Center.
- Work with the Natomas community to identify target populations and to recommend appropriate courses or programs of study to be offered at the Center.
- Assist in the recruitment of targeted populations.
- Serve as college liaison to community advisory groups.
Additioinal Responsibilities:
Typical Duties:
- Maintain statistical records regarding enrollment, WSCH, FTE, productivity, student success and completion rates, etc. for the Center.
- Meet regularly with the Inderkum High School principal and the branch manager of the North Natomas Library to discuss the needs of American River College and the host site.
- Coordinate with the main campus for student and instructional support services as needed.
- Hire and supervise staff (includes instructional technology support staff, security, counseling, assessment personnel, financial aid staff, etc.) necessary to support the education program at the Center.
- Arrange for the sale of textbooks through the American River College Bookstore at the Center.
- Support training opportunities for Center staff so that they retain currency in college and district policy and operations.
- Coordinate the Center programs and schedules (i.e. final exam schedule, flex activities, etc.) with the main campus.
- Address safety needs of students and staff.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requirements:
1. Have a master's degree* from an accredited institution completed by April 1, 2013.
2. Have one year formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.
3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
* Applicant must meet the minimum qualifications of a faculty discipline at the college. **Note: Individuals who have completed college or university course work at an institution in a country other than the United States must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees and other relevant documents. A foreign transcript evaluation is required any time foreign course work is used to meet minimum qualifications and/or salary placement even if the foreign transcript has been accepted by a college or university in the United States.

Conditions:
All Positions: Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process. When education is a requirement for the position, official academic transcripts from the accredited college/university must be submitted within 60 days of hire.
Administrative/Executive/Faculty Positions: Contingent on funding and eligibility, successful candidates selected for an interview may be eligible to apply for partial reimbursement of travel expenses.
Administrative/Executive Positions: Administrative positions may be subject to the District's Conflict of Interest Code, and a statement of economic interest is required within thirty (30) days following appointment to the position. Management/Executive positions are exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Additional Salary Information:
Additional stipend for an earned doctorate from an accredited university.
