Health & Wellness Instructor (K-5)

The Encinitas Union School district (EUSD) is contracting with Regur Development Group, Inc. (RDG) to provide “Health and Wellness” learning opportunities to K-5 students. RDG is looking to offer at will employment to qualified applicants for up to one academic year. Employees will serve as a “Health and Wellness Instructor” committed to teaching K-5 students about health and wellness through a balance of physical movement, nutritional choices, and character development. EUSD will provide a curriculum with a framework for instruction aligned to state learning standards. RDG will oversee the work, ensure a clear coordination with district priorities, and manage the work of employees. RDG is an equal opportunity employer.

Hours:   Full time – not to exceed 40 hours a week (non-paid duty free lunch)
Start and End times vary depending on school-site needs

Salary:   The position is based on the EUSD district calendar year, not to exceed 185 days, full time, starting salary is $46,900.  (prorated for starting in January)

Key Responsibilities:

• The role and responsibilities of the “Health and Wellness” Instructor is to provide and promote health and wellness support to students in the Encinitas Union School District; 
• Provide yoga/exercise instruction to K-5 students aligned to the district curriculum (not to exceed 30 hours of physical practice per week); 
• Provide instruction in health and wellness including working with students to discuss the district character education program;
• Assist with the continual development, implementation and evaluation of all health and wellness program curriculum;
• Ensure that the yoga/exercise equipment for group yoga/exercise classes is safe, clean and in proper working order;
• Attend and participate in weekly collaboration meetings to review curriculum and share best practices;
• Provide yoga instruction to staff and community members (to be determined by school needs);
• Maintain a clean classroom and clean yoga mats daily.
• Complete all Education Code or Research documents and/or reports as required.

Other Duties as Assigned

• Provide school level support in the area of supervision or classroom level social emotional support aligned with the district character education program;
• Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required

• Ability to instruct yoga/exercise programs to children;
• Experience working with K-5 students;
• Strong teaching and presentation skills;

Preferred

• Consistent and established long term yoga practice;
• Physical Education Credential;
• Experience teaching yoga in schools to K-6 students;
• California Teaching Credential.

Work Environment
This person must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The position requires high mobility, standing, walking, bending and sitting.  Must be able to climb steps, bend and move.
