The Institution

Cosumnes River College is located in the rapidly growing south Sacramento County area. Cosumnes River College is one of four colleges which comprise the Los Rios Community College District. Founded in 1970, the college enjoys a highly diverse student body with 14,500 students, and over 600 members of the faculty, staff, and administration. Over sixty percent of these students come from historically underrepresented communities, with a substantial English Language Learner (ELL) population and first-generation college attendees.

 

Distance Education is an increasingly important part of the Cosumnes River College instructional delivery system. Students learn by accessing a variety of delivery systems, including live interactive television classes, online instruction, and hybrid classes.

 

 

Position Summary:

Under direction incumbents perform a variety of difficult clerical tasks. Initiative and judgment are necessary to plan, organize, and perform the assigned duties. Incumbents typically are assigned to service areas where they serve as the lead clerical support for the service area or are assigned to instructional area offices where they serve as the lead clerical support in the absence of the administrative assistant. Incumbents typically serve as the lead of two or more employees. Responsibilities:

Serves as a resource/liaison for students and individuals on campus and in community by answering inquiries from students, faculty, staff and the general public who need information in the area assigned. When assigned to an instructional area office, serves as the lead clerical support for the instructional area office in the absence of the administrative assistant. Reviews files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests; assists students and staff with problems, testing requirements, services, and/or records; and arbitrate complaints/concerns and if necessary, refer such issues to appropriate person. Compiles, copies, sorts, and files records of office activities, business transactions, and other activities including employee, vendor, and equipment files; composes and types purchase orders, letters and other correspondence and reports; completes requisitions, gets bids and quotes for contracts and maintenance agreements, and follows-up with vendor invoices or purchase orders. Hires, provides pre-service and in-service orientation, trains, and oversees temporary clerical staff, student help, and/or classified temporary employees; prepares timesheets and provides letters of recommendation for student help, classified temporaries, and/or student aides. May also execute service policies/guidelines for students, student aides, and classified temporaries assigned to a program. Completes work schedules and arranges appointments; maintains bulletin boards and posts notices; maintains department/center records, campus information binder, District forms, and employment packets and job announcements; and maintains a wide variety of files such as testing instruments, forms, correspondence, accounts payable/receivable, and/or student hand-out and answer sheet files. Computes, records, and proofreads data and other information, such as records or reports including confidential student records. Orders and inventories office supplies and services, and completes related records and reports. Sets up and maintains administrative filing system and faculty and/or classified mailboxes; processes and posts outgoing mail and distributes incoming mail, packages, and other materials, which may include weighing, registering, maintaining record of mail transactions, priority and bulk mail, etc. and tracking postage meter usage. Assists with statistics for the annual report; attends staff meetings and workshops as required; performs additional duties as assigned by a specific department; and performs related duties as required.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Type 40 nwpm. Typing test/certificate required.

 

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Two years of general clerical experience including one year equivalent to Clerk II with the District. (One year of college level business and clerical course work may be substituted for one year of required experience).

 

Promotional: One year of experience in Los Rios CCD performing clerical duties at the level of Clerk II; OR, six months as an Administrative Assistant I. (Promotional applies to regular, current Classified employees working with the Los Rios CCD.)

 

Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. 

 

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: 12 units are equal to six months of education; 24 units are equal to one year of education.)

Typing certificates must be signed and dated from a recognized school or agency.

 

3. Unofficial transcripts of college/university work (required if using education to meet the Minimum Qualifications of this position).

* TRANSCRIPTS: 

- Individuals who have completed colleges or university course work at an institution in a country other than the United States must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees and other relevant documents. A foreign transcript evaluation is required any time foreign course work is used to meet minimum qualifications even if the foreign transcript has been accepted by a college or university in the United States.

- Graduate advising documents and grade reports will not be accepted as unofficial transcripts.

- It is the responsibility of Los Rios CCD employees to provide transcripts for the application process, if required by position.

Job Offer Requirements: Offers of employment are contingent upon successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process.

12:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday

12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Friday
