The OCDE Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program serves deaf and hard-of-hearing students, grades 7-12. The Department provides the educational staff for our middle and high school programs. Our classes are located on the campuses of University High School and Venado Middle School, both located in the city of Irvine. This highly specialized staff must be able to utilize a total communication approach which employs conceptually accurate signed English as the primary signing system with the support of American Sign Language (ASL) and English-based sign systems. Our students are educated with their hearing classmates to the maximum extent, which is beneficial to the students. Career and vocational education is an integral part of the program and is infused into the curriculum. Motivating students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to realize their fullest potential is one of the most important aspects of the program. We are seeking motivated and dedicated individuals wanting to serve as Substitute Paraeducators. Substitute paraeducators work on an on-call, as needed basis. Assignments can either be on a day-to-day basis or long term.
