Job Description / Essential Elements: Print   
TUTOR DEFINITION: Under direct supervision, the incumbent will tutor students in small study groups, provide intensified learning experiences for students, assist in the preparation of instruction materials, and perform other work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Tutor students in small study groups, assisting them in all subject areas based on the class and text notes. • Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by students. • Guide students in independent study for the purpose of ensuring student success. • Perform other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE OF: • English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar. • Routine record keeping. • Basic arithmetical concepts. • Spanish speaking is desirable. ABILITY TO: • Assume responsibility for assisting in the supervision of students. • Learn and utilize standard teaching aids and office machines. • Implement public education goals and objectives. • Perform routine clerical work. • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, positive and receptive attitude toward children. • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. • Maintain confidentiality. • Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, parents and the general public. • Take direction from supervisors. • Demonstrate good work habits and productive use of time. • Demonstrate maturity and adaptability. • Pass a required District test. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: Individuals possessing the knowledge and abilities as stated are considered to have the necessary experience. WORKING CONDITIONS ENVIRONMENT: • Office environment: frequent interruptions. • Outdoor environment: drive a personal vehicle to conduct work; visit other school sites; travel to other organizations and companies; meetings and workshops. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: • Ability to hear and speak to conduct group training and to exchange information in person, electronically and on the telephone. • Ability to read printed matter and computer screens. • Ability to understand speech at normal levels. • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment. • Ability to kneel, bend at the waist and reach overhead above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies. • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds. • Ability to climb stairs, walk, and sit for extended periods of time. • Ability to climb a ladder for purposes of inspection when necessary.
