JOB SPECIFICATION CAMPUS SUPERVISOR 6-12 THE POSITION Under general supervision, performs the task of patrolling a school campus and immediate adjacent areas; monitors student release policy, plant security, visitor’s activities, student detention, parking and traffic control; discourages inappropriate student behavior; maintains appropriate student records and files; and performs related work as required. RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Positions in this class receive general supervision from a school administrator or designee within a framework of standard policies and procedures. Incumbents may supervise, patrol and monitor students on the campus and immediate adjacent areas of a school and assist instructional staff as needed. They supervise student detention and Saturday school; check student permits and I.D. cards; and maintain student records and files as required. The duties listed below are typical for positions in the class collectively but no one position will necessarily include all these duties. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive: • Patrols the school campus and immediate adjacent areas during school hours to assist in the monitoring of students’ eligibility to leave campus. • Supervises detention and retention room and assists with Saturday school. • Helps to maintain school plant security. • Monitors and encourages proper behavior and prohibits loitering. • Assists instructional staff and may assist in detaining students pending the arrival of an administrator or law enforcement officer. • Monitors vehicle traffic and parking. • Monitors storage and return of “lost and found” items. • Maintains records as required. • Participates in District inservice programs. • Meets and/or counsels with students and parents. QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE Knowledge of: • Methods of controlling and motivating students. • District and school rules, regulations and procedures. • Student behavior and characteristics. • Basic office routines and procedures. • Correct English usage, spelling punctuation and penmanship. • Principles of public relations and human development. Ability to: • Perform routine clerical work and prepare clear, concise reports. • Direct activities of students and adults. • Identify campus violations and improper behavior. • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students and adults. • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. • Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. • Acts quickly and exercises independent, mature judgment. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade; a work history indicating reliability and familiarity with school-age students; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. REQUIREMENTS Pass the District’s adopted Proficiency Examination with a satisfactory score. PERSONAL QUALITIES Mature emotional stability, interest in and understanding of students, good health, flexibility and patience. WORK YEAR: 185 Days SALARY: Range 22 Board Approved: March 6, 1990 Title Change: 9/25/94
