The County of San Diego's Polinsky Children's Center is now hiring Residential Care Worker Supervisors to work OVERNIGHT and PM shifts which may include working weekends, and/or a Friday to Monday shift, and holidays. If you are interested, please apply today!
Polinsky Children's Center is a temporary shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected teens, children and infants located at 9400 Ruffin Court, San Diego, 92123 (Kearny Mesa area).
Residential Care Worker Supervisors supervise Residential Care Workers, volunteers and contract workers on multiple shifts in an assigned cottage or cottages, coordinate individualized assessment plans of children in residence with other members of a multi-disciplinary team, and oversee the activities of a cottage and its staff. Polinsky Children’s Center (PCC) plays a vital role in the Child Welfare system for abused, abandoned and neglected teens, children and infants who find themselves placed at the facility.
Examples of Qualifying Education/Experience:
- Completion of twelve (12) units from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in social work, child development theory, a closely related behavioral science and/or criminal justice to include behavior management techniques and child psychology/child development: AND,
- Two (2) years of experience providing supervision and care to children in a 24-hour residential facility or licensed day care, or licensed after school program for youth, one (1) year of which must have been working in an emergency shelter care facility performing journey-level Residential Care Worker responsibilities.
Notes:
1. Care for one's own children or care of children in an unlicensed facility is not qualifying.
2. Applicants using Residential Care Worker experience gained through U.N.I to qualify must submit a letter from U.N.I verifying the number of hours worked.
3. Qualifying experience includes experience as a school teacher instructing teens and/or children.

Ideal candidates will have the ability to plan, schedule, supervise, coordinate, evaluate and develop staff; carry out efficiently and effectively the goals and services of PCC, are customer focused, value and respect others, professionally and calmly deal with unruly behavior and verbal abuse; are able to perform the physical demands of child care, supervision, safety and security; and do whatever it takes to get the job done within legal, professional, and ethical boundaries and with appropriate training. Ideal candidates also provide leadership, communicate effectively, hold self and others accountable, solve problems, leverage resources (coaches and develops), and drive to excel.
The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a three (3) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental application.
