BASIC FUNCTION:
Instruct high school students in classroom/clinical skill settings for entrance into Vocational Nursing Program.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement lessons to teach skills required for students to master competencies
- Provide group and individual instruction utilizing effective teaching strategies, project-based learning, instructional aids and equipment
- Evaluate students’ skills and job readiness competencies, and maintain accurate student records
- Manage clinical skills in a manner conducive to learning
- Communicate and work effectively as part of a team
- Collaborate in planning process for modifications in curriculum
- Assist students in developing an individualized learning plan to prepare for employment, advanced training, or career advancement
- Participate actively in subject matter advisory committee and staff meetings
- Keep abreast of current practices and training methods
- Assist in recruitment and employment of students
- Teach CPR
- Accurately report student attendance in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as required
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
a) Knowledge of current medical/health practices, clinical expertise, and technological skills with emphasis on vocational nursing
b) Knowledge of methods and techniques of effective presentations
c) Skilled in verbal and written communications
d) Knowledge of teaching strategies, project-based learning and learning modalities
e) Ability to integrate academics
f) Ability to organize environment and instruction to facilitate learning
g) Ability to write lesson plans for individual and group instruction
h) Ability to use diverse teaching strategies to meet students’ learning styles, abilities, interest, and cultural backgrounds
i) Ability to follow ROP policy/procedure, including maintaining student and other required records
j) Ability to work effectively as a team member
Experience/Training/Education:
LVN license, or ADN degree with current California RN license and CPR card, BSN desirable. Candidate must have a minimum of five years recent experience in the nursing field, including one year of clinical experience in a long term care facility. Must possess or be eligible for a valid Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential authorizing service in the appropriate subject matter and a valid license verification. College degree in a related field may substitute for some employment experience.
