Summary: New West Charter is an award-winning 6-12th grade independent charter school in Los Angeles, California. Our school attracts a diverse student population from all over the area, focuses on academics, and builds confidence through the arts and athletics. We are looking to add an enthusiastic math teacher to New West’s high school faculty to serve students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate would be a highly qualified and experienced teacher who is ready to lead five periods of middle school level math (Algebra 1 and Geometry) and communicate their passion for the subject to the students in alignment with the California Content Standards. Our school values student-centered learning. Teachers are expected to engage students in lessons that help them make meaning for themselves through classroom activities (demonstrations, simulations, labs, discussions, debates), assignments (creative projects and evidence-based persuasive papers), and assessments (multiple formative and summative assessments to measure progress towards mastery). Reporting Responsibilities: Reports directly to the High School Vice Principal Performance Objectives: Connects with individual students quickly and is able to establish a personal and meaningful relationship. Teachers must be able to develop a relationship built on understanding, trust, mutual respect. We are looking for people that truly care about their students beyond the school day. Able to correctly identify strengths and weaknesses in students using a variety of means. Teachers must be able to use data and other indicators to identify patterns of achievement or challenges and then work with students to develop and implement successful strategies to improve their learning. New West is seeking a team-oriented, dedicated, student centered teacher looking to grow as an educator and mentor middle school students. Candidates should be willing to work past the school day and go the extra mile to support all students. Those applying should have at least 2-5 years of experience in the high school setting using a variety of teaching strategies to help reach all students. Charter school experience is always a plus.
Middle school math teachers are expected to implement a rigorous student-centered curriculum addressing state and common core standards and facilitate learning through strong classroom lessons. They will be responsible for choosing what types sources their students will examine and create their own curriculm.
They must also examine and report student learning and progress through regular assessments. The teacher must also maintain student attendance records and other data and are expected to participate in ongoing professional development and stay informed about developments in their field.

Single Subject CA Credential in Mathematics; a Resume; a Letter of Introduction; 2 Letters of Recommendation
Credentialed applicant would be required to teach courses in Algebra 1 and geometry. The courses would be planned by the applicant and be based around common core and the CA state standards. We are seeking a dedicated math teacher to join our dynamic math department and work alongside a highly experienced math department chair.
