BIG SUR CHARTER SCHOOL K-8 TEACHER

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The K-8 Teacher is responsible for the planning and implementation of each assigned student’s Individualized Learning Program, maintaining the monthly Learning Record, attendance reporting, and other teaching duties as assigned. The Teacher performs his/her duties under the supervision of the Program Coordinator or the School Director.

 PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with families and students at the beginning of each semester to create Individual Learning Plans
  • Assist parents with appropriate curriculum choices and place Curriculum and Resource Requests with the main office
  • Assist families in completing forms, including Enrollment forms, Individual Learning Plans and Curriculum and Resource Requests
  • Complete a Master Agreement for each student before the first day of each semester and ensure that all parties sign before instruction begins
  • Meet with students and families at least every 20 days to monitor student progress and assign student work
  • Assign time value to student work for attendance purposes, evaluate student work for alignment with semester goals and standards, and create Monthly Learning Record
  • Collect Attendance Calendars and Logs and 3 Work Samples, from families monthly and verify attendance through evaluation of student work
  • Submit Learning Records (work samples, Work Summary Report and Parent Attendance Calendars and Logs) and Learning Period Attendance to main office within established timelines
  • Work with students and families to provide instruction, lesson planning and parent education to ensure each student is making progress toward semester goals
  • Be available to families as needed by phone during the hours of 9-5 Monday - Friday on days when school is in session
  • Administer benchmark, progress monitoring and standardized tests as required
  • Implement RtI program
  • Provide tutoring and small group instruction as needed
  • Attend 504 and IEP meetings and document student Present Levels of Performance
  • Implement California Standards for the Teaching Profession as described in the

          BSCS Teacher Evaluation Rubric and participate in professional development

  • Develop Local Area Program including recommending Community Learning Partners/Teachers
  • Create Local Area schedule of events and classes including service learning and field trips
  • Coordinate Local Area Parent Advisory Council meetings at least once each semester to ensure adequate parent input in program development and planning
  • Assist the Director with other assigned duties, including checking school inventories, end-of-year obligations of students and staff, coordinating community/school activities, developing public relations programs, and planning and implementing orientation programs for the teachers, students, and parents

Current California Teaching Credential (CLAD)

Education:

B.A. or B.S. Degree. This position requires subject matter expertise in educational programs, and curriculum and instruction strategies. The job requires the ability to analyze and offer alternative problem solutions.

Experience:

Minimum of two years teaching experience preferred. Knowledge of non-classroom based charter school operations desired.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies and learning styles. Ability to adapt teaching to individual student needs. Knowledge of projects based learning and demonstrated ability to implement successful projects integrating 21st Century skills, such as collaboration, creativity, and technology. Ability to monitor student progress towards academic goals and use data to inform decisions and modify instructional program. Commitment to teaching the California Content Standards and to engaging parents as Partners in Learning. 

Language Skills: 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret student performance data.  Ability to write reports,  and to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, staff, students and the general public. 

Spanish bilingual/biliterate preferred 

Mathematical Skills:  

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

Computer Skills:

Must be knowledgeable of current school software, and a variety of electronic tools. Must be capable of correspondence using e-mail or other web based applications. 

Reasoning Ability: 

Analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Program Coordinator or the School Director in accordance with BSCS policies and procedures
