Cooperative Work Experience and Internship Coordinator

 

The Institution:

Folsom Lake College is one of four colleges in the Los Rios Community College District. The college, its education centers in Placerville and Rancho Cordova, and its new regional performing arts center, Three Stages, offer a dynamic learning community committed to academic excellence and innovation. The college mission is focused on rigorous academic programs, including Career and Technical training programs that emphasize student success and completion. To this end, the college provides varied degree and certificate programs, a variety of learning opportunities and ensures a comprehensive student services program. The college provides instruction in a variety of formats including semester, short term, and weekend, as well as classes offered online and during traditional vacation periods.

 

Folsom Lake College incorporates the newest technologies for classroom instruction, as well as provides opportunities for faculty to offer courses in a variety of distance education formats. The college also features an Innovation Center, which offers training for faculty and staff, as well as assistance to faculty in course development.

 

 

Position Summary:

The Cooperative Work Experience and Internship Coordinator will work under the general direction of the Dean of Career and Technical Education (CTE) to coordinate the FLC Cooperative Work Experience and Internship Program in accordance with Title V regulations. In addition, the Coordinator will train faculty, develop partnerships with public and private employers, work with economic development agencies, interact with CTE advisory board members, and provide opportunities for students to participate in work experience and internships.

 

 

Additional Position Summary:

. Oversee the organization and development of Co-op program goals and objectives, legal compliance, procedures, budgeting, curriculum development and revision, and program review. 

. Coordinate and maintain required Title V documentation and student records for the FLC Co-op program, including working with faculty, staff and management to establish and maintain time lines and submission of required documentation. 

. Partner and collaborate with other Co-op programs within the Los Rios Community College District including the development and maintenance of the website and database system, known as LINCS. 

. Develop partnerships with public and private employers, work with economic development agencies, and create opportunities for students to participate in work experience and internships. 

. Team with the Co-op Work Experience faculty and other instructional and student services faculty and classified staff. 

. Work with the area dean to schedule Co-op classes, recruit, interview, and orient Co-op faculty. 

. Market the Co-op program to FLC staff, faculty and managers; as well as, to local high schools, economic development agencies, and public and private sectors in the greater Sacramento area. 

. Collaborate with FLC career technical and non-career technical faculty and staff to develop partnerships and Co-op student work experience and internship sites. 

. Actively recruit students and aid in placing students in relevant work experience and internship opportunities related to their career goals. 

. Conduct professional development workshops for students, faculty and staff, as well as employers about the importance of the Co-op. 

. Utilize technology including computers, internet, email and power point presentations. 

. Perform other functions as assigned, which may include instructional assignments and grant writing. 

. Assignments may include day, evening and weekend work hours, visits with area employers, on and off campus, Distance Education and may be divided among Folsom Lake College and its El Dorado and Rancho Cordova Centers.

 

 

Responsibilities:

The coordinator shall be responsible for the following: coordinating fulfillment of Title V compliance requirements under the supervision of the area dean; collaborating with other Work Experience faculty assigned to teach Work Experience classes, helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with curriculum and articulation studies; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance and student co-curricular activities; faculty and/or coordinator to complete site visits to maintain contact with supervisors of work experience students; maintain Cooperative Work Experience Education (CWEE) manual, to be reviewed annually; coordinate on-going advisory boards presentations; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Have a master's degree in a discipline taught at the college from an accredited institution completed by July 1, 2012; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in a discipline area taught at the college; OR, the equivalent. Note: Applicants applying under the "equivalent" provision must provide details and explain how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degrees listed above. 

 

2. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities as it relatres to differences in learning styles.

**Note: Individuals who have completed college or university course work at an institution in a country other than the United States must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees and other relevant documents. A foreign transcript evaluation is required any time foreign course work is used to meet minimum qualifications even if the foreign transcript has been accepted by a college or university in the United States.

Conditions:

Job Offer Requirements: Offers of employment are contingent upon successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. For permanent and adjunct faculty positions, when education is a requirement for the position, official academic transcripts from the accredited college/university must be submitted within 60 days of hire.

The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process.

Administrative positions may be subject to the District's Conflict of Interest Code, and a financial disclosure statement is required within thirty (30) days following appointment to the position.

Contingent on funding and eligibility, successful candidates selected for an interview may be eligible to apply for partial reimbursement of travel expenses (for Administrative/Executive and Faculty positions).

 

 

Additional Salary Information:

Entering annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units and degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and on verified experience. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overloads, and stipends.
