WELDING INSTRUCTOR
POSITION
This is a full-time, tenure track, 175-day faculty position in the department of industrial technology. This position starts August 2012, pending board approval.
The faculty member will provide instruction in all aspects of welding technology. The instructor will also be responsible for program review, schedule coordination, directing and working with part-time instructors.
In addition to teaching and keeping regular office hours, other duties during a 37-hour workweek include departmental and committee assignments, curriculum development, assisting with facility and equipment maintenance and coordinating the welding technology program with other programs in the industrial technology department, promotion of the welding technology program, articulation of the program with high school and university programs, and other instructional responsibilities as may be required. The assignment may include teaching at off-campus centers and will include evening classes.
SALARY AND FRINGE BENEFITS
Hiring salary range is $48,736 to $69,854 depending upon education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,000 is paid to those who qualify.
Fringe benefits include medical and dental insurance coverage for employee and family.
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience, OR any associate’s degree and six years of occupational experience, or the
equivalent.
Demonstrated currency in the instruction of welding technology
Demonstrated ability to develop and use course materials and incorporate current technology
Demonstrated ability to use multi-media technology in classroom instruction
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and present lecture and lesson materials and concepts and to assess student achievement
Demonstrated ability to design, review, and evaluate curriculum and make recommendations to maintain program currency for both vocational and transfer students
Demonstrated ability to work with and assist students having a broad range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational goals
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
Demonstrated ability to identify and use learning outcomes and assessment that lead to course and program improvements
Demonstrated knowledge of course design, evaluation, and assessment methods which enhance student learning
Knowledge of interrelationship of critical thinking, reading, and writing and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to instruction
Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities
EQUIVALENCY PROCESS
In its desire to select an outstanding faculty member from the largest possible pool of qualified applicants, Allan Hancock College recognizes the fact that candidates may have attained expertise in a discipline through a variety of means. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged by the district as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for this position. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications must complete the equivalency form and provide appropriate documentation of qualifications
SCREENING PROCESS
A committee will review applications. Meeting minimum qualifications does not assure a candidate an interview. Therefore, it is important that the application be thorough and detailed. Applicants will be assessed on the breadth and depth of education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. A limited number of applicants will be invited for an interview at the college at their own expense. All interviewed candidates will be asked to present a short teaching demonstration. Final candidates may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
