Descriptions of positions emphasizing the unique VIE model:
1.0 FTE Teacher: Special Education Mild to Moderate
This position will support students in the Home School Academy and encompass:
• Caseload management for students with a range of learning disabilities
including enrollment meetings, Interim, Annual, Triennial, and Initial IEPs as
well as coordination of their state testing including CAHSEE.
• Participation in Response to Intervention, Student Study, and 504
Accommodation Planning teams.
• Development of authentic assessment methods and curriculum materials
appropriate for students with a variety of learning challenges.
• Staff Development through ongoing consultation and collaboration.
• Parent-educator support through ongoing consultation and collaboration
virtually (phone, e-mail, digital) and through outreach visits in the field.
• Ability to problem solve IEP cases with credentialed teaching staff and
parent-educators in unique home-school environments that may include
challenges with behavior management, study-skills, time-management, and
learning that reflect and respect students’ identified special needs.

LEVEL: Certificated Support
CHARACTERISTICS OF CLASS: Under general supervision, serves as a case manager for special education students; holds Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings; performs related records management; consults with teachers and parents on curriculum; serves as a member of the special education team; performs other duties as assigned.

- Writes special education program goals and objectives in areas of responsibility. (E)
- Develops and evaluates special education curriculum; evaluates student educational plans. (E)
- Conducts Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings and student placements and monitors special education caseloads. (E)
- Conducts annual review of students with an IEP. (E)
- Works with individual students or groups of students. (E)
- Participates in parent conferences. (E)
- Reviews educational programs with parents and notifies them of due process rights. (E).
- Provides student diagnostic assessments. (E)
- Conferences with teachers, other instructional staff and instructional administrators regarding student progress. (E)
- Maintains effective communication systems and processes. (E)
- Forms partnerships and develops teamwork with peers and other school staff to support and enhance special education students success. (E)
- Prepares and maintains special education program and student information, files and/or reports. (E)
- Develops implements and evaluates special education program in-service training programs for certificated and classified staff. (E)
- Coordinates and participates in the evaluation of special education program, and related groups and committees. (E)
- Makes presentations to professional organizations and groups, as requested.
- Plans, coordinates and prioritizes work activities to meet established objectives and timelines. (E)
- May assist with special projects, special school programs and/or events.
- Recommends special education program revisions and updates to teacher handbook.
- Attends staff meetings, in-service training activities, workshops, conferences and other training. (E)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Possession of a valid California teacher credential in the areas of Special Education, Resource Specialist.
