Salary: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule, based upon education and credited experience, ranges from $34.99 to $47.65 per hour.

Skyline College faculty are expected to be knowledgeable about, and willing to use, different learning and teaching methods as appropriate to the discipline.

 

The Cosmetology Department is housed in a new state of the art facility, with day, evening, and weekend classes held year round.  

 

Primary responsibilities include the following:

1. Collaborate with department faculty to create class schedules and determine through enrollment trends future semester scheduling;

2. Coordinate curriculum planning and development and selection of instructional materials;

3. Coordinate program review process for the department;

4. Coordinate scheduling with industry advisory committees and other professional groups;

5. Participate in student recruitment and departmental fundraising;

6. provide a classroom environment that promotes and stimulates learning for every student;

7. Stay abreast of current techniques and technologies that are effective in a diverse classroom;

8. Consult with students to review certificate applications, efficient path for completion of certificates, answer questions regarding the program, and to resolve issues;

9. Supervise classified staff in the department overseeing such things as purchasing, inventory, safety, client services, etc.;

10. Serve as a liaison with the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology;

11. Serve as a member of department, division, and college committees;

12. Participate in faculty and staff meetings; and

13. Perform other professional duties as required by contract or divisional and institutional needs.  

 

Requirements:

1. Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of three years of related work experience in the field and teaching experience, OR an Associate Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of six years of related work experience in the field and teaching experience, OR possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service in Cosmetology, OR the equivalent (see information that follows).

2. Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
