Requirements / Qualifications
Applications will be accepted until Tuesday, February 22, 2011 (4:45 p.m.), or until the position is filled. NCLB PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: - The “No Child Left Behind (NCLB)” legislation requires that paraprofessionals must meet a “Highly Qualified” criterion. This can be accomplished by one of the following: a) 2 years of completed study at an institution of higher learning (48 units or more with official transcripts submitted with application), b) an Associate’s Degree or higher, OR c) demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to assist in instruction in the classroom in English, reading, writing, and math by passing the District NCLB examination (refer to proficiency exam schedule). You must present verification of one of the above options in order to take the Merit System examination. The testing schedule follows: NCLB Proficiency Exam: February 07, 2011 (8:30 a.m.) The proficiency exam starts promptly at the scheduled time. Latecomers are not admitted. Candidates will be required to present valid photo identification prior to sign-in. The job of Speech/Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) was established for the purpose/s of assisting speech/language pathology staff in providing speech/language therapy services for pupils with communication disorders (i.e., delays in pragmatic semantics, syntax, fluency, articulation/phonology). This job reports to Director, Special Education and/or other assigned administrators MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Job related experience is required. Education: Targeted job related education that meets organization’s prerequisite requirements. Equivalency: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and six months of experience working with children in an organized setting, preferably with children with special needs. Completion of two years of higher education study OR possession of an Associate’s or higher level degree, OR pass assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics OR reading, writing, and mathematics readiness. Certificates: Valid Driver’s License & Evidence of Insurability, Valid Speech/Language Pathology Assistant Certification.
