THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Cal Poly Pomona Children’s Center, the CCAMPIS Coordinator/Outreach Specialist will develop and coordinate the outreach and marketing program for the Cal Poly Pomona Children’s Center.  The Coordinator/Specialist will implement a summer program for children 5 to 10 years of age. He/she will assist in the accreditation process for the Children’s Center with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Additionally, the coordinator will perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned areas of responsibility. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Implements and oversees the CCAMPIS program and maintains awareness of new developments to support student-parents.
  • Reviews and understands the CCAMPIS grant contract eligibility criteria.
  • Evaluates required PELL grant evidence for eligible student-parents.
  • Reviews application packets for accuracy.
  • Ensures that accurate program and participant files are maintain and organized.
  • Plans, organizes, develops, and produces a comprehensive Family Partnership Plan.
  • Coordinates with the teachers on classroom attendance.
  • Develops implements and evaluates an outreach program for low-income student parents enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona.  The Coordinator/Outreach Specialist will engage in outreach to the community and community colleges to inform prospective student parents about the Children’s Center.
  • Maintains statistics and documentation on outreach programs.
  • Develops marketing campaigns to promote the Children’s Center and its activities, both on campus and in the community.
  • Reviews all promotional and publicity pieces prepared for the Children’s Center.
  • Develops implements and assesses summer program for children 5 to 10 years old.
  • Participates in staff selection for summer program.  Assist in training, supervising and evaluating summer school age program staff.
  • Ensures program compliance with CCAMPIS grant, Federal and State rules, regulations, policies and procedures and licensing requirements.
  • Coordinates communication with other on-campus departments, community colleges and other outside agencies.
  • Oversees and coordinates outreach activities and events including conducting workshops and informational presentations for student-parents.
  • Follows procedures for purchasing according to grant regulations.
  • Prepares announcements, flyers, pamphlets and brochures.
  • Prepares reports and collects data on the student-parents and their children according to grant.
  • Assists with the recruitment of children and volunteers.
  • Promotes and coordinates specific early literacy activity ideas for teachers.
  • Promotes marketing and outreach of volunteers.
  • Collects student-parent data to help support successful student graduation.
  • Maintains documented records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; prepare statistical reports with required data.
  • Monitors program performance; recommends and implements modifications to systems and procedures.
  • Attends and actively participates in department staff meetings, training sessions and public relations events.
  • Prepares complete monthly reports for the Director, writes clear analysis of research and assists with grants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Child Development, or Education.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience and five years experience working in the classroom with young children.
  • Experience working at an accredited center desired.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse and pluralistic campus and external campus community.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude towards Children’s Center families, students, faculty, staff, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to address the needs of student-parents by actively supporting their educational pursuits at the University.
  • Ability to use sensitivity in addressing the needs of others.
  • Ability to respond promptly to requests from prospective and current parents, and other constituents.
  • Experience in coordinating and directing educational programs and activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a creative and team-centered environment.
  • Ability to speak effectively to large and small groups.
  • Ability to allocate limited resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Possess effective writing skills.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to present trainings at satellite office and other locations; off site recruitment.
  • Ability to oversee teaching curriculum and implementation.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health.  Must be able to provide a current Health Screening Form completed by qualified medical personnel.  A physical examination must have occurred no earlier than three months from date of application and must include a T.B. test with a negative score.
  • Good driving record. DMV printout and proof of insurance required.
  • Obtain a Defensive Driver Training Program certificate.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.              
  • Must provide official copy of transcript of all relevant education.
  • Must be certified in pediatric CPR, and first aid health and safety training within three months of hire.
  • Must pass criminal records check. Persons convicted of a crime other than minor traffic offenses may not be employed. All applicants must submit Fingerprint Cards and a completed Child Abuse Index Form.  In the event fingerprints have been submitted to another facility, applicant must submit a statement detailing when and where (name of school or center, full address) fingerprinting occurred.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible outreach or public relations experience including one year of administrative responsibility.
  • Familiarity with college campus environment a plus. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range; ability to sit, talk and hear. 

PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to frequently lift a child up to 40 pounds, hear and see a child from a distance of 100 feet.  This position requires on a daily basis: standing 35%, kneeling 35%, sitting on floor 15%, walking 10% and running 5% of the time.
