TLC IS A K-12 PUBLIC HYBRID HOMESCHOOL We incorporate both school and parent involvement in educating students. Families can choose between a 100% homeschool program, or a hybrid program, with 3 days at school and 2 days at home. OUR MISSION To empower students to reach their full potential by providing choice in education within collaborative triads of parents, students, and school. OUR HISTORY In May 2004, the San Diego Unified School District approved The Learning Choice Academy and authorized it to serve students in grades K–12. Currently, TLC has charters for all three school sites with sponsors from local districts including Chula Vista Elementary School District, Grossmont Union High School District, and San Diego Unified School District.

Duties:

The Education Partner (EP) reports to the school site. The EP is responsible for designing and implementing the student’s learning plan. This includes working with the student and parent/guardian to set educational goals, set-up classes and provide curriculum, provide instruction as needed and assess student progress. Educational Partner will support parents/guardians and students in an independent study setting. Together with the parents, develop and carry out a personalized learning plan for each student. Personalize assignments and curriculum to meet individual student needs while meeting CA State Standards. 

Candidate must possess exceptional skills and knowledge in facilitating and evaluating learning plans in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. 

Be responsible for creating an effective learning environment that develops in each student the knowledge and skills needed to be prepared for high school, college, career, and life.

Be a positive role model and instructor with the ability to evolve the educational program. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials that stimulates inquiry, self-expression, and individual growth. 

Track educational materials checked out to students. Arrange for return of materials. Order or obtain appropriate educational materials needed. Research educational information that students or parents need. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students and accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.

Create assignments using a data system for student assignment and work records, meeting face to face regularly with parents and students, participate in all school activities and events, assist teachers and supervisors with student supervision, attend all staff meetings.

Prepares progress reports, report cards and evaluates academic and social growth of students towards the state standards. Implement math and/or language arts intervention plan for students identified as intervention students. Establishes and maintains standards and expectations of student behavior for a productive learning environment. Promotes a learning environment that is conducive to the growth of student responsibility and self-control.

Counsel high school students on graduation requirements, high school projects, and college and career goals

Communicates with parents and staff on progress, growth, areas of improvement. Identifies pupil needs and consults with other professional staff in assessing and helping.  Work closely with parents/guardians to support the students education by providing tools and resources to assist parents in educating their children.

Practices professional competence by attending staff development programs, subject team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and IEP meetings and student intervention meetings.

Evaluate and document the progress of English Learners towards the ELD and ELA state standards

Provide support to SPED and 504 students to help students work toward IEP goals and implement accommodations. Collaborate with Resource Teacher and report student progress to Resource Teacher. 

Physical demands include lifting, carrying, and push/pull items with a strength factor of light work. Sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Performs any other related duties as assigned.

Understanding of appropriate behavior management techniques.

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

Technology applications. Possess good computer skills (Google Docs, Microsoft Word and Excel, email, etc.) 

Methods for effective cooperation with all stake holders, including interpersonal skills using honesty, patience, respect and courtesy.

Basic First Aid.

Ability to:

Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and school staff

Communicate constructively and positively. Check e-mail and phone messages daily and return phone calls and e-mail in a timely manner

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Demonstrate proficiency in English, both orally and in writing; print and write legibly.

Maintain an orderly and organized learning environment. Participate in ongoing setup, cleaning, reorganizing and maintenance of resource centers as requested by administration.
