The California Teacher Recruitment Program, operated by Tulare County Office of Education, in partnership with Bard College, is currently accepting applications to Bard's Master of Arts in Teaching program in Delano, California. A highly selective liberal arts college, Bard has a longstanding interest in initiating and supporting programs that encourage teachers and students to think about education in new ways, offering various innovative educational initiatives in effort to impact social change. The MAT program at Bard follows this tradition by seeking not just to educate and certify teachers, but also to initiate positive change in the public school system. With programs offered at Bard’s main campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, in New York City, Delano, California, and Palestine, Bard students are fully integrated into high-needs urban and rural schools. In California, graduate faculty and students work side-by-side with public school teachers and students to teach, to learn, and to learn to teach well, through their participation in the daily life of a public charter school, Paramount Bard Academy. This common campus creates a model of teacher preparation that parallels the high quality education we commonly associate with the preparation of doctors in teaching hospitals.

Earning a masters degree from Bard College enables students with a background in: -biology -history -literature -mathematics to become credentialed 7th-12th grade teachers in their discipline, through one-year full-time study. Students may be credentialed in California or New York, or in both states; they receive urban and/or rural teaching experience. Fellowships ($20,000) and living stipends ($30,000) are available to students who are committed to teaching in the Central Valley and to Bard’s mission of changing education.
