CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER TEACHERS (2 Positions)

Two, One Year Full-Time Temporary Positions

This is a categorically funded position that is contingent upon receipt of annual funding.

Under the supervision of the Child Development Center Director, the Child Development Center Teacher shall develop and implement a comprehensive classroom curriculum that is responsible to meet the unique needs of the children and their families; promotes growth in all areas of development; and supports feelings of competence, self-respect, and internal control.

SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT
Child Development Center Teacher shall have responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:
Curriculum planning and implementation.
Assisting, supervising, and directing Child Development Center Support Staff, Child Development Interns, Work Study and Work Experience Students, and parent and/or community volunteers (paraprofessionals) assigned.
Role modeling and mentoring best practices in the areas of curriculum and behavior management for Child Development Practicum.
Evaluating and assessing children assigned and conferring with parents as needed.
Physical work is a primary function of this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At minimum, must meet educational and experiential requirements of California Child Development Teacher permit and hold said permit.
Completion of 3 EDE/CDC units in Health and Safety for young children.
Demonstrated minimum 12 months full-time equivalent teaching experience.
Demonstrated expertise in the administration and interpretation of assessment instruments in the child development field.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff and students of various ethnic, social, economic, and academic backgrounds.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal relations skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Demonstrated ability to actively listen and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
The following are requirements that must be met by the date of hire:
Tuberculosis clearance.
Current pediatric first aid certificate.
Valid Adult-Child CPR certificate.
Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) background clearance.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.
MEETING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DOES NOT ASSURE THE CANDIDATE OF AN INTERVIEW. Applications will be evaluated taking into account the breadth and depth of relevant education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by any or all of the following:
Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education
Completion of 3 ECE/CDC units in infant/toddler care
Master Teacher Child Development Permit

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
This position requires the candidate pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical.
Working hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm; or Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm as assigned by the District.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Based upon the minimum and/or desirable qualifications stated in this position announcement, the initial salary placement range is $27,341(minimum qualifications) to $36,602 (bachelor degree) (Fall 2009 Salary Schedule). Placement is based on the Children’s Center Teacher’s salary schedule and is based on 180 service days and is dependent upon verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.
