Foothill-De Anza Community College District ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY De Anza College Bookstore Coordinator Job #09-070 Closing Date: 01/30/09 The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for Bookstore Coordinator, De Anza College. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE: Under the supervision of the Bookstore Director, coordinate the day-to-day activities of the bookstore, including personnel and operations. Serve as the primary point of contact during the evening hours. Assist in training staff, coordinating student schedules, and scheduling and facilitating staff meetings. Provide efficient operation of auxiliary stores, the computer department, and special events, including but not limited to “rush” and graduation. Maintain responsibility for the daily physical condition of the Bookstore; assist in the development of long and short-range plans for the maintenance, improvement, and renovation of Bookstore facilities. Ensure pricing of all bookstore merchandise is in compliance with established Bookstore pricing policies. Assist in the formulation of policies and procedures of the Bookstore. Enhance the image of the Bookstore on campus, within the local community, and within the college store industry nationally. Under the supervision of the Director, coordinate and ensure an accurate physical inventory. Coordinate the ordering of general merchandise; contact vendors regarding prices, quotations, shipping and delivery information; determine future stock needs; and ensure the timely placement of merchandise on the sales floor after its receipt. Monitor consumer trends to ensure customer needs are met through continuous changes in the product mix. Assist in the efficient use of the Bookstore computer system by maintaining current user information, providing access, and enforcing security protocols. Oversee the Point-Of-Sale (POS) system by performing periodic backups, software updates, and maintaining current cashier profiles. Coordinate student employment, payroll, and the store’s timekeeping system. Implement changes and ensure compliance in policies and procedures. Oversee the functions of the Customer Service Coordinator. Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff. 2. Any combination equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree. 3. Four years of buying or sales related experience preferably in a bookstore setting. *Please note, if you do not possess the requested degree, please provide within your resume, additional related education (i.e. course work, seminars, workshops, trainings, certifications, etc.) Work experience and education are two separate requirements. In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the following: 1. Knowledge of accepted business and retailing practices. 2. Knowledge of proper cash handling procedures. 3. Knowledge of merchandising principles and practices. 4. Knowledge of personal computer operation including, but not limited to, spreadsheet and word processing software. 5. Ability to demonstrate commitment to the increased understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for all cultural groups, women, and the disabled. 6. Ability to effectively direct, supervise and monitor the bookstore staff. 7. Ability to organize, plan and implement short and long-range activities. 8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with administrators, faculty, students and off-campus organizations. 9. Ability to maintain records, prepare reports and initiate correspondence necessary to the successful performance of duties and responsibilities. 10. Ability to work with limited supervision.
