Under direction of the AVID Coordinator (SFUSD credentialed teacher/counselor), the tutor will work and guide small groups of students and grade the AVID students' notebooks. Duties and Responsibilities: • Tutor small groups in specific subject matter areas using Socratic questioning, writing to learn, the writing process, and cooperative learning. • Grade student binders. • Serve as positive role model, valuing education and its benefits. • Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of: • The writing process • Note taking and study strategies • Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and the Sciences • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary • Oral and written communication skills • Interpersonal relations skills using tact, patience, and courtesy Ability to: • Tutor small groups • Understand and follow oral and written instructions • Communicate effectively with students and adults both orally and in writing • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, instructional staff, parents, and others connected to the course work • Work confidentially and with discretion Minimum Qualifications: Some college preferred but will give consideration to high school students enrolled in upper level classes. In addition to your job application, applicants must submit a current class schedule (school-issued transcript/schedule), resume, letter of intention and 2 work references. Non high school student applicants must pass background check administered by SFUSD and provide a negative TB test results. **Note: In order to be considered for this position you must be enrolled at least part-time in college.
