Job Summary

Job Summary

Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and collaborative Technical Director (TD) to join our dynamic high school arts environment. We are particularly interested in candidates whose technical expertise extends beyond traditional scenic construction and includes lighting and/or audio production. The ideal candidate will bring strong management skills, technical knowledge, excellent organizational skills, a solid work ethic, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. The Technical Director plays an essential role in supporting OCSA's productions and arts programs, working closely with students, teachers, administrators, and guest artists to ensure that productions are executed safely, efficiently, and at a high professional standard. The TD will evaluate the degree of skill required by the project and utilize his/her independent judgment to assign and train production staff based on skill level, experience, and availability. This position requires significant flexibility because OCSA's production schedule extends beyond the traditional instructional school day. The successful candidate must be willing and able to work during the instructional school day as well as evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours, depending on the production and performance schedule. During tech weeks, performances, festivals, special events, and other production periods to supervise and support the work of production staff, the Technical Director may be required to work extended hours and be present both on site and, when appropriate, off site. The ability to adjust one's schedule around production demands is an essential function of this position. Candidates should understand that the nature of theatrical production requires periods of particularly intensive work that may include late nights, weekends, and school holidays.
