Job Summary

The Special Education Coordinator supervises and formally evaluates assigned special education teachers; provides instructional leadership, coaching, and professional development; and coordinates compliance monitoring and service delivery. The Coordinator supports timely, appropriate implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs), meaningful student progress, and collaboration with families and staff within BEST Academy’s non-classroom-based independent study model. Employment Details and Location Expectations BEST Academy is a non-classroom-based public charter school serving students throughout Southern California. While most job responsibilities are performed remotely, employees are expected to participate in occasional in-person activities, including field trips, staff professional development, conferences, school-sponsored events, and community outreach and marketing activities. For this reason, BEST Academy prioritizes hiring candidates who reside in Southern California and can reasonably travel to required in-person events. Employees must be available to attend these activities as scheduled. Retirement Benefits: BEST Academy does not participate in the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS). Instead, we offer a 403(b) retirement plan with an employer matching contribution of up to 13.5%, subject to plan eligibility and contribution requirements.
