Middle School Life Science Instructor (Grades 6–8) – De Anza College Summer Academy at De Anza College Academy
Job Summary
Job Summary
De Anza College Summer Academy is building an applicant pool of instructors for our Summer 2027 enrichment program for middle school students (grades 6–8). We're looking for enthusiastic instructors who can make life science engaging, active and real. Courses in this area introduce how living organisms grow, adapt and interact with their environments. Past courses have used outdoor investigations and field-based activities on De Anza's campus, where students observe local plants and wildlife, map simple ecosystems, collect data, sketch their findings and test their own hypotheses. Instructors design their activities and choose their materials; you'll have a supply budget, and we'll order everything before the program starts. Classes typically have 15–20 students. The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching outside the traditional lab, encourages curiosity and helps students think and work like scientists. Position: Middle School Life Science Instructor (Grades 6–8) Rate: $80.00 per hour Program dates: June 28 – July 23, 2027, Monday–Friday (no classes Monday, July 5). Instructors also attend a required work morning on Friday, June 25, 2027. Schedule: The program day runs 8:30 a.m. – 12:55 p.m. in four one-hour class periods. Instructors teach two, three or four periods per day depending on course assignment, so daily start and end times vary by instructor. Period assignments are confirmed at hiring. Location: In person on the De Anza College campus in Cupertino. Preferred: A valid California teaching credential is recommended but not required. Teaching experience in life science or biology and with middle school students is preferred. We welcome applications from classroom teachers, graduate students, naturalists and science professionals with experience working with youth.
