Description

Position Summary:

Teacher Assistants play an integral role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students in the Lower School. Assigned to either the primary grades (K–2) or upper elementary grades (3–5), they work under the direction of the Lower School Division Head and in partnership with lead teachers. Teacher Assistants contribute meaningfully to classroom instruction, student supervision, and the overall learning environment. They are active members of the school community and participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, school events, and other key functions of school life.

Instructional Support

  1. Assist in delivering high-quality whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction in core academic areas, including literacy and mathematics

  1. Implement teacher-designed lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments


  1. Administer and support the use of assessment tools to monitor student growth and inform instruction

  1. Provide academic interventions and targeted support to help students meet or exceed grade-level benchmarks

  1. Actively contribute to a culture of learning through collaboration, feedback, and instructional innovation

Classroom & Student Management

  1. Reinforce classroom expectations and implement effective management strategies in alignment with the lead teacher

  1. Support students in developing self-regulation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills

  1. Step into the lead teacher role when needed, including in the teacher’s absence or during differentiated instruction

  1. Maintain accurate records of student progress and classroom activities as directed

  1. Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all students

Community Engagement & Collaboration

  1. Participate in school-wide and grade-level meetings, curriculum development, and professional growth opportunities

  1. Collaborate closely with faculty, specialists, and administrators to support each student’s unique learning needs

  1. Maintain open and professional communication with colleagues and families as appropriate

  1. Engage actively in all assigned supervisory duties (e.g., recess, lunch, arrival/dismissal)

  1. Attend and contribute to key school events, including:


  1. On-campus professional development and in-service days

  1. Back-to-School Night, Curriculum Night, Parent Conferences (fall and spring)

  1. Holiday and year-end performances, promotion ceremonies, and family engagement nights

  1. Grade-level field trips and overnight experiences

  1. Community events such as the Family Picnic and Parent Socials

Other Duties

  1. Exhibit professionalism, punctuality, and reliability in all responsibilities

  1. Perform additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the Division Head or lead teacher

Qualifications

  1. Valid California Teaching Credential (Single or Multiple Subject).
  2. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced coursework or training in education or child development is strongly preferred.
  3. 3-5 years elementary age experience
