Located in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley, the El Monte Union High School District was established in 1901. Its high schools include Arroyo, El Monte, Mountain View, Rosemead, South El Monte and Fernando R. Ledesma High School. EMUHSD also features the El Monte-Rosemead Adult School, one of California’s largest and most respected adult programs. EMUHSD employs over 600 certificated employees and over 500 classified employees. The professional staff provides educational programs for over 7,000 students in grades 9 through 12 and 11,000 in adult education. Just minutes from the hub of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Civic Center, with the Pomona, San Bernardino and 605 freeways traversing the areas, the district boasts many comfortable and residential neighborhoods in addition to providing sites for a myriad of business and industrial facilities. The population studies show that approximately 200,000 people reside in our attendance boundaries. The area that the District serves represents a cross-section on interests, professions, and groups. The majority of income for people in this area is broadly grouped into industrial and factory work and retail sales. The families who live in this area include many in the middle to lower income economic groups.   1. A clear understanding of the sport's fundamentals.
  2. Have a thorough knowledge of the skills, theories, and philosophies of coaching as they relate to the sport.
  3. The ability to execute the duties and responsibilities of a head coach.
  4. Demonstrate a positive and effective working relationship with superiors, peers, subordinates, team players, students, and parents.
  5. Have demonstrated the ability to motivate students and to foster and maintain team unity.
  6. Possess positive professional characteristics such as integrity, conduct, appropriate language, behavior, and ethics.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Every coach must have valid CPR, AED, and First Aid cards.

2. Every coach must possess CIF Certification.

3. Coaches must supervise and take responsibility for the locker room and other facilities necessary for the conduct of their sport.

The following documentation must be submitted and verified by Human Resources **before a coach is cleared to work with EMUHSD students:** **Fundamentals of Coaching:** Certificate of completion for the “Fundamentals of Coaching” course offered online through the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). **CPR, AED & First Aid Certification:** Proof of current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification is required. **Online-only courses are not accepted.** **TB Clearance:** Proof of a current negative TB test **OR** a completed Adult TB Risk Assessment Form. Documentation must be **dated within the last 60 days.** **IMPORTANT:** Coaches may **NOT perform any work-related duties, attend practices, or work with students** until they have received official clearance and authorization from Human Resources.
