Job Summary
Location: Various sites throughout LA County The Position: The Transition Counselor will serve as an advocate for students as they transition out from a court school program to either their school of residence, an institution of higher education, a vocational training program, a place of employment, or the military. The transition counselor will provide guidance, support, and resources for students transitioning from juvenile court schools to other school placements or places of employment. The counselor will develop and maintain a student referral system at area office sites and communicate effectively with probation staff, parents, students, and other district personnel regarding students' needs and progress. Requirements / Qualifications
Experience and Education: Any combination of education and experience that would be likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: 3+ years of directly related and progressive experience as a counselor, including educational and career counseling. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with programs designed to improve educational opportunities for at-promise students. Education: Equivalent to a master's degree in counseling or a closely related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. License or Certificate: Must possess and maintain a valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) in counseling. A PPS credential in school counseling (Child Welfare Authorization is desired in addition to the Counseling authorization).
