2017-2018 Teacher Resident

About KIPP Bay Area Schools
KIPP is a national network of 200 college-preparatory public charter schools with a 20-year track record of preparing students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and in life.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, two KIPP elementary schools, seven KIPP middle schools, and three KIPP high schools are closing the achievement gap between low-income students and their more advantaged peers. These innovative, tuition-free, college-preparatory schools are located in the underserved neighborhoods of Bayview Hunters Point and the Western Addition in San Francisco, Redwood City, East San Jose, San Lorenzo, and West Oakland.

Position Overview
Residents will join KIPP Bay Area Schools in its launch year of our Teacher Residency. The Residency will offer aspiring teachers with little to no formal teaching experience a unique opportunity to receive high-quality training at a KIPP Bay Area school through a one-year residency. Individuals are paired with a high-performing KIPP teacher, who serves as a coach and a mentor, for the entire school year. Residents begin the school year as an observer, a tutor and a small-group instructor, gradually gaining more responsibilities inside and outside the classroom eventually to co-teach or lead teach a group of students in the spring. In partnership with Aspire’s Teaching Residency, KIPP Residents will attend an all-day seminar once a week to discuss coursework theories and classroom practices. They will also take online courses in education theory through University of the Pacific during the summer and school year. At the successful completion of Year 1, Residents receive their Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction and California Preliminary Teaching Credential from University of the Pacific.

This program is best suited for individuals who are passionate and committed to teaching as a long-term career path.
