KEPPEL UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT VISUAL ARTS ELEMENTARY TEACHER K-8 DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the principal, the Visual Arts Teacher will provide direct and inquiry-based instruction in the field of visual arts to students in grades K-8, supports the California Arts Music Content Standards, develops, organizes, and conducts a comprehensive visual arts education program in accordance with each student’s abilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Teaches visual arts to students in grades K-8, provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. - Employs techniques and provides opportunities for learners to recognize, identify, and utilizes qualities in visual work within the Elements of Art and Principles of Design; provides instruction to students with an array of art media in the skills that enable learners to communicate ideas, images, symbols, and feelings in visual forms; utilize an array of media for expression. - Plans a balanced educational program; develops weekly lesson plans and instructional materials; translates lesson plans into learning experiences to utilize the available time for instruction; provides appropriate, detailed instructions/plans for substitute teacher in event of absence. - Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of student behavior. - Presents and provides outreach events/shows and other art programs for assemblies, classroom demonstrations, and/or P.T.A programs. - Identifies student needs and assists and cooperate with school and District personnel in assessing student needs; encourages students to develop individual artistic skills to the greatest extent possible; assists in the development of alternative solutions to individual educational planning, and in the adapting of curriculum offerings to meet individual educational needs. - Establishes and maintains timely and effective communication with parents through a variety of means.
