Limited Term (ends 12/31/26) - Temporary Clerk/Typist II – Transportation Department POSITION SUMMARY Paradise Unified School District is seeking a dependable, organized, and service-oriented Temporary Clerk/Typist II to provide clerical and operational support to the Transportation Department. This position will assist Transportation staff during daily student transportation operations, with particular emphasis on supporting afternoon bus routes when telephone and radio activity is highest. The successful candidate must be able to remain calm, professional, and attentive while managing multiple incoming requests and communicating effectively with staff, parents, and the public. When transportation activity is lighter, the Clerk/Typist II will assist with data entry, records, filing, and other general clerical duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to: Answer and route incoming telephone calls to the Transportation Department. Monitor and respond appropriately to two-way radio communications from bus drivers and Transportation staff. Relay accurate and timely information between drivers, Transportation staff, school sites, and other appropriate personnel. Receive and document parent questions, concerns, and transportation-related messages. Assist with communications during afternoon bus routes and other high-volume transportation periods. Accurately record information related to route changes, student transportation concerns, incidents, or other operational matters. Provide clerical support during transportation incidents, including assisting with telephone and radio communications as directed. Assist with parent contacts and follow-up communications at the direction of Transportation staff. Perform data entry and maintain accurate electronic and paper records. Type correspondence, reports, forms, lists, and other materials. Organize, file, copy, scan, and distribute documents.

Position Purpose:

To perform a variety of clerical activities including typing, filing and record keeping in support of assigned school or District program/office operations.  Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures.  Employees in this job class may train, coordinate and monitor the work of student aides in a lead capacity.  This job class performs a wide variety of responsible clerical support duties and requires a knowledge of standard procedures, precedents and requirements associated with the operation of an assigned office/program.  This job class must be able to choose among a limited number of alternatives in solving the standard range of problems.  This job class functions at a journey level of job classification.

Essential Job Duties:

The following tasks are essential for this position.  Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.

 

   1.     Performs a variety of clerical activities related to the function(s) of an assigned office/program.

   2.     Keyboards correspondence, purchase orders, work orders, newsletters, records and reports from clearly defined sources.

   3.     Answers telephone, takes messages, refers caller.

   4.     Receives, screens and assists students, faculty, parents ad the public providing requested information or referring to appropriate person.

   5.     Maintains records and prepares reports related to specialized office/program operations such as attendance, time sheets, purchases, gas/fuel consumption, bus schedules, student driver training and standardized test scores.

   6.     Collects, verifies, sorts, tabulates and files a variety of data and information according to predetermined classifications; maintaining alphabetical, numerical, index and cross-reference files as required.

   7.     Enters routine data related to assigned office/program operations into a computer terminal such as daily attendance, student grades, standardized test scores, etc.

   8.     Calculates, posts to and maintains records associated with assigned office functions; verities account balances.

   9.     Receives, sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.

  10.     Orders, sorts and delivers office or instructional supplies and maintains an inventory of assigned supplies.

  11.     Performs related duties as required.

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

 

Knowledge of:

  • ·        Proper English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary.
  • ·        Proper office methods, procedures and practices.
  • ·        Standard procedures, methods and/or policies pertaining to assigned office/program.
  • ·        Basic bookkeeping practices and procedures.

 

Skill and Ability to:

  • ·        Operate designated office machines and equipment with speed and accuracy.

 

Skill and Ability to:

  • ·        Accurately keyboard at a rate of 45 wpm.
  • ·        Operate standard office equipment/machines such as copier, typewriter, computer, printer, calculator, etc.
  • ·        Perform routine arithmetical calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • ·        Establish and maintain accurate, routine records and files.
  • ·        Effectively communicate in both oral and written form.
  • ·        Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

 

Training and Experience:

Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: completion of the high school and one year clerical experience.
