MOUNTAIN VIEW-LOS ALTOS UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 1299 BRYANT AVENUE MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA 94040 CLASS TITLE: GROUNDSKEEPER BASIC FUNCTION: To perform general grounds gardening and maintenance work at assigned school and other District site (s). Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class performs a variety of general grounds, gardening, and maintenance duties in the upkeep of assigned school site (s) and related areas. Positions in this job class may be assigned to a school site or to a groundskeeping crew who perform groundskeeping functions at various sites. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Plants, cultivates, prunes, shapes, trims, waters and sprays trees, shrubs, hedges, and plants Plants, fertilizes, waters, mows, and cares for lawns Operates hand and power tools and equipment, including power mowers, edgers, trimmers, sweepers, and other grounds maintenance Uses hand tools to work soil and to remove weeds, undergrowth, and debris from school grounds and landscaped areas. Keeps school and/or other District grounds clean; sweeps sidewalks and picks up paper, rubbish, and other debris Hoes and rakes weeds, leaves, and grass clippings Applies pesticides and herbicides to grounds and garden areas for pest/weed control purposes Drives a pickup truck, tractor, and/or gang mower as assigned Maintains hoses, supplies, and tools in proper condition and repair Performs minor service and repair work on groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, edgers, sprayers, backpack blowers Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment for special events as assigned Operates, repairs and adjusts heads on sprinkler systems Mows, drags, chalks, lines, and marks athletic field for scheduled events Performs other duties similar to the above in scope and function KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Groundskeeping and gardening methods and practices Safe use, maintenance, and operation of groundskeeping tools, power equipment, and sprinkling systems Care and use and application of pesticides and herbicides for pest/weed control purpose ABILITY TO: Effectively and safely use hand and power tools associated with groundskeeping and gardening work Repair and adjust sprinkling systems Perform minor maintenance and repair work on a variety of groundskeeping equipment Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions Ability to read and write at a level necessary to successfully perform required duties Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and landscaping plans Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: •Heavy physical labor •Outdoor environment, exposure to elements •Exposure to loud noise, dust, pollen and toxic chemicals and fertilizers Licenses and other requirements: •Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance •Evidence of TB clearance If required to operate a vehicle: •Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License •Acceptable driving record and qualification for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier
