The Maintenance & Groundskeeper works under the direction of the Facilities Manager and Site Director and performs a variety of routine maintenance, groundskeeping, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and facility-support duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Perform routine inspections of school buildings, grounds, equipment, and common areas to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
2. Review and respond to maintenance requests as assigned.
3. Perform minor repairs and general maintenance involving plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical fixtures, and other building systems within the employee’s training and ability.
4. Inspect, repair, and maintain restroom facilities and occasionally replenish restroom supplies as needed.
5. Maintain school grounds, including weed removal, leaf blowing/raking, sweeping walkways and exterior areas, and general landscaping maintenance.
6. Inspect grounds and facilities for pests and potential hazards and perform appropriate minor pest-control or abatement measures.
7. Inspect and maintain thermostats, clocks, signage, and other facility equipment.
8. Perform routine preventative maintenance on facility systems and equipment, including swamp coolers and kitchen drains, as assigned.
9. Visually monitor fire extinguishers and other safety equipment and report conditions requiring professional inspection, service, or replacement.
10. Perform basic troubleshooting and minor maintenance related to electrical and solar systems; coordinate or report work requiring a licensed professional.
11. Safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, landscaping equipment, ladders, and other maintenance equipment.
12. Assist with facility setup, repairs, cleanup, and other maintenance projects as needed.
13. Maintain work areas, tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies in a safe and orderly condition.
14. Promptly report significant safety hazards, needed repairs, or conditions requiring specialized contractors to the Facilities Manager or Site Director.
15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Prior experience in building maintenance, groundskeeping, construction, facilities, or a related field is strongly preferred. Applicants should have general knowledge of basic maintenance practices and the safe use and care of hand and power tools. Familiarity with landscaping, painting, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or solar systems is extremely desirable.

The successful candidate should be self-motivated, dependable, flexible, safety-conscious, able to prioritize tasks independently, and willing to learn.

Requirements

Applicants must possess or be able to obtain required DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance and TB clearance prior to employment. A valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

The position requires the ability to perform physical maintenance and groundskeeping work, including prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling; climbing ladders; safely using tools and equipment; lifting and carrying materials and equipment; and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
