Requirements / Qualifications

Must meet NCLB/ESSA requirements for paraprofessionals working in Title I Schools to include: • Graduation from High School or equivalent, and two years of college (48) units, OR • Associates degree (or higher), OR • Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction Additional Requirements: • Fluency in Spanish & English (reading, writing, and speaking) required • Punctuality and regular attendance • One year of experience working with elementary, middle or high school students in an organized setting required • Child development or education course work and associate’s degree in education or related field preferred OR • Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties may be substituted for the required experience and/or education • Candidates selected for employment must have a certificate showing that within the last 60 days the person has submitted to a tuberculosis risk assessment and if tuberculosis risk factors were identified, has been examined by a physician, nurse practitioner, or local health department and has been found to be free of infectious tuberculosis • Candidates selected for employment are required to be fingerprinted and cleared by the CA Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigations through the Lewis Center (LCER)
