Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education or Early Start Coordinator, the Early Start Paraprofessionals will work directly with children with developmental delays, ages birth to three years old, and their families, performing a variety of instructional and supportive services. Early Start Paraprofessionals must have knowledge of the typical developmental patterns of infants and young children and have knowledge of or be willing to learn atypical development due to child disabilities or risk factors. Early Start Paraprofessionals assume a variety of roles in early intervention programs depending on the service delivery model (one-on-one home-based programs, classroom settings, etc.) and the supervising teacher (infant teacher, speech therapist, etc.). Depending on their knowledge and skill level, Early Start Paraprofessionals will operate with varying degrees of independence or supervision.
Requirements / Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • High School Diploma or equivalent; • One (1) year experience working with young children in an organized setting, desirable; • Exposure to or experience with children with exceptional needs, desirable; • Valid First-Aid and CPR Certificates may be required; • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver's License; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance. Participation in this plan is mandatory for employees working 36 plus hours a week. Employee will be a member of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) to which both the employee and MCOE contribute. Employee may elect to be a member of the Mendocino County Federation of School Employees Union. MCOE does not participate in the Social Security system.
