El Rio Community School, a new public, independent charter school opening in Fall 2020, offering standards-based instruction via developmentally focused, arts-integrated methods, and informed by the principles of public Waldorf education, seeks three mixed-age kindergarten teachers and three grades teachers (grades 1, 2, and 3).
Kindergarten teachers will teach mixed-age Tk/K classes with 20 students and a part-time assistant. We seek candidates with warmth, patience, enthusiasm, joy, and the ability to use Waldorf methods to make the curriculum and naturally embedded state standards come alive for the children through the activities and practical work of the kindergarten.
The ideal kindergarten teaching candidate will be a loving authority figure to the children, and balance high academic standards, the ability to respect and engender the respect of students, the knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm to engage students of all temperaments and ability levels, and the interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, administration, and parents. The posting is open until positions have been filled.
Grades teachers at El Rio will loop with their classes, with the opportunity to teach the same group of children in grades 1-4 and 5-8. Our anticipated class size will be 24 students. Teachers have the opportunity to use their own creativity to shape the curriculum, using Waldorf methods to deliver state standard based content that is responsive to the needs of the students in each class.
El Rio will offer a competitive compensation package, training and support, as well as the opportunity to be part of shaping an innovative new school in Northeast Los Angeles. Our educational program includes one day a week spent in nature.

Bachelor’s Degree
California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential/eligibility
Waldorf Teaching Certificate preferred.
Experience in Waldorf kindergarten/class teaching preferred.
