About San Domenico San Domenico School is a K–12 independent school located on a 515-acre campus in Marin County. Our expansive campus features an on-site trail network, providing a premier environment for mountain biking. About the Role The Mountain Bike Coach at San Domenico School is responsible for fostering a positive, competitive, and inclusive environment for student-athletes. This role emphasizes the development of technical riding skills, trail etiquette, and personal character, ensuring that the mountain bike program reflects the school’s core values of study, reflection, community, and service. San Domenico fields an interscholastic mountain bike team during the spring season (typically running from December through May), competing in the NorCal Interscholastic Cycling League. The coach leads and supervises all aspects of the season, including training rides and race weekend logistics. Practices are held after school on weekdays twice a week and on Saturdays, utilizing both our on-site trails and local Marin County trail networks. Races typically occur on weekends at various venues across the region. The coach plans and leads daily rides, provides mechanical support and skills instruction, and supports student-athletes in balancing their athletic goals with their academic responsibilities. This position plays a vital role within the Athletics Department and reports to the Director of Athletics. The coach works closely with student-athletes, parents, and fellow coaching staff to support a strong team culture, clear communication, and a positive student experience within a school-based athletic program. Requirements / Qualifications
Qualifications: Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience 3+ years of experience coaching youth cycling or mountain biking, ideally at the high school or club level. Deep knowledge of NICA/NorCal League rules, trail etiquette, and bicycle mechanics. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate young athletes. Ability to work flexible afternoon hours, including weekends for practices and races Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the season starts). Because driving school passenger vehicles is a core function of this role, candidates must meet strict institutional insurance standards: License Requirement: Must have a valid California driver’s license and receive/maintain clearance to drive from our insurance company. Desired Skills: NFHS and NICA coaching certification is highly preferred. Experience with recruiting processes and preparing athletes for collegiate programs. Experience working in an independent school environment. Strong organizational skills for managing rosters and match reporting. A commitment to fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment for athletes of all backgrounds.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is between $8,000 and $10,000 per interscholastic season. Placement within the salary range will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates with fewer years of experience can expect placement toward the lower end of the range.
