Job Summary
The Director of Information Technology provides strategic leadership and operational management for the technology ecosystem of Excel Academy Charter Schools. As a non-classroom-based charter school where students learn through online virtual Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital curricula, technology serves as the primary gateway to education. This position serves as the primary point of contact for analyzing systems, mitigating cyber threats, and managing I.T infrastructure across the organization. The Director evaluates current infrastructures to recommend continuous improvements, oversees software implementation projects, directs LMS operations, and leads the IT support team to ensure effective workflows, device life-cycle management, and smooth daily operations for staff, students, and families.
Requirements / Qualifications
Employer Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, , Systems Management, or a closely related field required; Master’s Degree preferred. Recommended Certifications: Industry-recognized certifications in IT infrastructure, network administration, cybersecurity, or cloud administration preferred. (e.g. CETL, LMS credential and Project Management Professional) Valid California Driver’s License Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, and cybersecurity. Minimum of 3 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity overseeing technical support teams, help desk operations, or vendor contracts. Demonstrated experience managing virtual Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Schoology, Google Classroom) and cloud-based environments (Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft 365 A3). Prior experience in a charter school, K-12 public education, or remote/independent study educational setting is strongly preferred. State/Federal Qualifications State and federal fingerprint clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Ed. Code 44237). No prospective employee can report to work without this clearance being received and Human Resources notifying the immediate supervisor of this clearance.
