Cross-Country Coach Job Description: Cross-Country Coach Report to: Athletic Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Times: Beginning October 1, 2026, must be available weekday afternoons and Saturdays. Position Summary The Cross-Country Coach will lead a third grade through eighth grade cross-country program focused on developing running skills, endurance, teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence, and a love for physical activity. The coach will provide age-appropriate training while maintaining a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all student athletes. Essential Responsibilities Plan and lead age-appropriate cross-country practices and conditioning sessions for students in grades three through eight. Teach fundamental running skills, including proper running form, pacing, breathing, warm-ups, cool-downs, and stretching. Develop students' cardiovascular endurance, strength, speed, agility, and overall fitness. Introduce appropriate age training techniques and race strategies. Prepare third through eighth grade student-athletes for cross-country meets and competitions. Monitor students' progress and provide appropriate feedback to help them improve. Promote good sportsmanship, respect, discipline, commitment, and teamwork. Encourage students to set personal goals and develop a positive attitude toward running and physical fitness. Communicate professionally with families, teachers, school administration, and athletic staff. Maintain and properly use cross-country equipment and facilities. Monitor weather and environmental conditions and make appropriate adjustments to practices for student safety. Follow all school, district, league, and safety policies. Attend scheduled meets, practices, and team events. Qualifications Previous cross-country, track, running, or coaching experience preferred.
